So, I am a fan of an annual schlock awards show called the Smithee Awards, which started back in 1992 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and are now hosted annually at the Origins Game Fair. Smithee nominees aren’t like the Razzies - the selections for a given year do not have to have been released that year. The rules are fuzzy, but basically the crew of the show select films that tend to be good-bad, that provide clips in the 18 (formerly 19) categories, and that aren’t family or fully comedy films. The films have to be dubbed in English or Esperanto.
I’ve been attending the Smithees since 2006; I’d be happy to provide some more details on the show, but I decided a while back that I should watch every film nominated for a Smithee Award. I’m over 80% done!
So is anyone interested in me talking about some of the remaining schlock movies as I watch them? Tonight, I am tackling 2004’s Decoys, nominated in 2016 in the ‘Alas Poor Yorick’ and ‘Let’s Up the Rating to R’ categories.
