I slept way later than I had meant to today. I have so much to do and I am so far behind now. Oh well, I’ll get caught up on housework eventually.
Anyway, spring is making an attempt at sprunging here but it’s just not happening. We’ve had at least one day in the mid-high 60’s each week for the last 3 weeks but as soon as that nice day happens, the temperature starts dropping. I was sitting here feeling guilty for leaving the dogs outside for over an hour but then I realized that it’s 67° and sunny so they probably don’t even know I’m alive.
I’m totally jealous of your tank Mooooom. I’ve always wanted a salt-water tank but I’m just too lazy for one. My level of ambition is well suited to gold fish. Speaking of gold fish, I had a dream last night that the fish tank imploded and I had to rush out to find a new one but no one was selling any 35 gallon tanks. I ended up having to buy a 60 gallon tank (for 2 goldfish) but it was shaped like a doughnut and was totally free of edges. It was seriously cool.
I hate earwigs. They totally gross me out. I don’t see many of them in this house though and when I do see them, it’s usually after Iggy has seen them so they’re usually half earwigs. No ticks yet but I’ve been looking for them. We have no grass left in the kennel area so as long as we can keep them all from escaping and running into the woods, we might actually have a tick-free year. That would be nice.
We came to a conclusion about the trees. We’re going to get all the downed limbs (and trees) from various hurricanes, tornadoes, and way too early snowstorms and we’re going to put them all in the back yard (only 1/3 of it is kenneled). Then we’re going to spend the spring and summer weekends chopping down the damn arborvitaes in the front yard. Once we have everything down that we want down, we’re going to rent a chipper and spend a weekend chipping everything. I can’t wait to get rid of these damn arborvitaes. I hate them. They’re ugly and overgrown and they don’t let anything grow under them. Once they’re gone, we might actually be able to grow some grass.
Headache update - the medicine is back to working properly and I am pain free. My hands still tingle and my feet keep falling asleep all the friggen time but at least my head doesn’t hurt. I will not experiment with my medication again. I see the neurologist on Friday.
Oh well, I suppose it’s time to start cleaning the dang house. If I bust my butt, I can probably be done with everything in 3 or 4 hours. Ugh. I hate cleaning.
Howdy Y’all! I’m at da cave doin’ some irk. At about two this afternoon I dedided I could do some things at home as well as the irkplace. Plus I needed a little quiet time to concentrate. I really like havin’ the option of irk from home sometimes.
I’m doin’ a stirfry for dindin. Beef, broccoli, carrots, onions and green peppers. YUM!!! I shall serve it over sticky rice.
Tonight I have Vestry meetin’ at the church house as well.
It’s supposed to be rainy this afternoon but so far, no rain. Oh well.
Ima go start dindin cause I’s hongry!
Laterz!
I don’t know if spring has sprung here but it’s warm and rainy. I’m one of the only people in the world who doesn’t like to work in the yard, so I live in a condo. I fried my laptop last night so need to get a new one. How many hundreds is that? Bob teh Wonder Pony celebrated spring by doing the zoomies for 15 minutes and cuz he’s old, he owchied his stifle and needs a shot to make him feel better and my pocketbook smaller–$150. Apparently I iz made out of money.
peedin I also dislike yard work though I don’t hate it. I enjoyed living in a condo for (only) that reason. The negatives of condo living didn’t in any way balance out with the positive of no yard work. Now we have nearly an acre, which is (thankfully) mostly wooded and party kenneled. It really minimizes the work we have to do. We don’t get enough direct sunlight (due to the height of the trees) to make gardening easy though and I’d really like a veggie garden.
I’ve been moderately productive. I started some laundry and got all the dirty stuff down the chute (I love my chute. I will never modify my bathroom counter because it would require getting rid of the chute to comply with fire codes). I also put a latch on the front glass door. We cant put up the screen doors because the dogs even destroy dog-resistant screen but at least I can get a teensy bit of light now. Of course Iggy the Idiot ran right into the glass. Dumbass.
I’m inclined to rake the kennel because it’s so nice out but there’s a winter worth of dog crap x 3 out there to be dealt with and I don’t know if I’m up for it. On the plus side, it’s hasn’t actually been hot at all so it shouldn’t smell.
I’m free! I’m free!! After two years I can erase from my brain the memory of the accident I witnessed. The case has been settled, two days before I was scheduled to be deposed. For the last two years I have made every effort to keep it as clear in my mind as possible so I could be a good witness. Last week I emailed to the defendant’s lawyer the typed recollections I had been saving for 2 years. I don’t know if they helped with the settlement though because the details are confidential. Remembering the accident has been hard on me but I felt it was necessary. My second biggest interest in forensics (other than the squishy aspect of it) is that it helps to bring peace and closure to people who are suffering from the loss of a loved one. I knew that there was the possibility that my testimony could help bring some of that to a lot of people so I forced myself to remember. I am very glad now that I can let it go. I’m also glad that I don’t have to go to Boston. I really don’t like Boston.
On a more whiny note…
It’s not even officially spring yet and the temp hasn’t been over 70° since October. Why the hell did I see a mosquito buzzing around my front door? Is it seriously time to get out the bugacide machine already?
My car is fixed! Culinary Boy and I went to buy the part, then we went to the Place of Changing Oil to get the fluids topped off. While we were there, Culinary Boy asked if anyone there knew where the knock sensor was on a Subaru Outback. Not only did one of the guys know, he also pointed out its exact location and told Culinary Boy what ratchet size he needed to replace it. So we went back to Parts Buying Place where Culinary Boy dove into their toolbox. Thirty minutes of cussing later, I now have a brand new shiny knock sensor and the check engine light is off. I’ll drive the recommended 100 miles* before getting it reinspected and then I’ll be able to have a legal license tag.
*Guy at the Place of Changing Oil said that if it stays off for 100 miles, it’s most likely fixed. The last time it went off when we changed the spark plugs, the light came back on in 90 miles so I’m guessing he knows what he’s talking about.
I did not want to get up this morning. I really did not want to get up and go to work!
75 and sunny so I came home a bit early and opened up the house and got the fans going to get it aired out while I worked from home. Spring has sprung. Although I believe I am 'lergic to something around here as the headache won’t go and I can barely hear as my ears are so bunged up.
Maybes wine would help with that!
So I dropped a text and hit the road to Spotsylvania around 10am, arrived just after noon. There was an SUV in the driveway I didn’t recognize.
Went to the front door and knocked, loud. The dogs started barking pretty good. No answer. Even though I have keys I chose not to enter the house. I tried to call her phone, no answer.
I went around to the well and tried to fix it - no luck. Then I left.
I sent a text saying “You are a waste of my time.”
FOUR HOURS LATER I get a text, “Excuse me?” I explained how I drove down today (as we agreed yesterday), texted when I left (as we agreed yesterday), arrived, knocked on the door, no answer, etc…
The response? “You should have knocked harder.”
I guess I didn’t knock hard enough to wake her from her afternoon slumber with her “He’s a friend - just a friend.”
Some people should come with a fucking warning label.
Damn right. I’m still dealing with drama from my ex-boyfriend. grr . . .
It’s a blustery day here on the wet side of the Cascade Mountains, although spring has stuck her slippered toe in the door. The cherry trees along the street have a hazy pink outline and the willows have been pollinating for a month. I am anticipating the change of season, as it always helps me when I am transitioning out of a relationship. Time for better things.
FCM you mentioned FCD’s favorite wine, I have discovered Santo Moscato d’ Asti and it is delightful. Even better, I found it stocked at Costco for half the price I can find it elsewhere. It is the num!
The mail lady brought 5 boxes to the door today. My eldest child and her family are moving down here in June (from Kodiak) and she is shipping stuff for me to store. I am filled with happy happy joy joy, I miss them so much, especially my grandbabies, and I just cannot wait until they are here. They leave the island on June 6th and are driving the AlCan, which puts them here around the 12th. Did I mention my happy happy joy joy?
So, dinner dilemma, do I make hamburger gravy or meatballs and gravy?
gigity you did your part. Too bad she didn’t do her part. If I were you I wouldn’t worry about it anymore. Let her friend fix the well.
As to yahd irk, I have no love of it but I don’t hate it either. It’s just one of those chores one must attend to when one is a homeowner. Don’t wanna scrub terlets either but I do.
Yay for fixed car Spaz!
Yay for bein’ free and not havin’ to go to Boston shortdrum!
WetOne poor Bob the Wonder Pony. I hope he feels better.
gotti things with wheels are designed to be both nuisances and semi-moneypits, IMO.
Hope the new drug is workin’ CatDude.
I’ll see y’alls skeeters and raise ya the ones I saw in January.
Vestry meetin’ went pretty well. Just over an hour long so not too bad. This Sattidy is St. Patrick’s Day and bein’ as my church is St. Patrick’s that means we celebrate with corned beef and cabbage, “Irish” stew, Irish soda bread, Irish music and of course green beer. It also means da bear gets to spend part of Firday evenin’ and aaaaaaaaaallllllllll day Sattidy cookin’. I am the “Irish” stew chef de cuisine. The stew’s official name is “St. Patrick’s It’s Irish Because We Say So Stew” meanin’ it’s not exactly authentic but close enough. The big secret ingredient is a couple Guiness Stouts in the stew and a couple Guiness Stouts in the cook.
but but but…you live in Georgia!!! (land of cancelled school for 1/4" of snow!!!) Isn’t it normal for you to have skeeters year round??
Can spring have sprung if we never really had a winter???
My morning was a funeral, of the man that is the reason I’m known by my user name. There were people there, who I’ve known & worked with for double-digit # of years who dont even know my IRL name.
Oh, & I’m new to the MMP.
Spidey
Welcome Spidey! I’m sorry about your friend.
Welcome, spidey!
Hi guys, I’ve been off on a new mission lately. I’ve entered the world of substitute teaching. So far it’s been pretty interesting.
Not much else to say, really, as I’m tired and thinking of heading to bed soon.
Crap crap crap crap. I think I have developed another side effect and it’s even more annoying than the tingling hands and sleeping feet.
My face is not numb but if I touch the area between my upper lip and nose, or my cheeks, it feels like I have left a thin trail of tickling fuzz behind. It tickles. I can’t wait until Friday.
I was very dissatisfied with the Monday I received this morning, but I’ve come to realize that it’s actually not half bad.
I walked a mile and a half to breakfast (and back again!). Part of the route is a bike path that goes behind several neighborhoods and has a . . . well, it ought to be a creek, but it’s all paved in, but it’s too big to be a drainage ditch, and anyways, it hasn’t been cleaned out in ages, so it’s created its own ecosystem with islands and ducks and frogs and tall grass. Anyways, it’s lovely to walk beside, and the whole path is fenced in, so I can let the puppy roam, which makes her happy.
Very nice and well worth the blister I earned.
The only downside was that there had been some sort of fuel spill right next to the Panera I went to, and while the police and fire departments were working their butts off to contain it, some definitely got into the storm sewers and then into the creek/drainage ditch/nature preserve. I could smell diesel on my walk back and see the sheen on the water. Hope it doesn’t hurt the wildlife there too much.
The tiny vegetable gardens down by the river in the town where I have my flat are allotments, too. I was complaining that it’s become impossible to find “black lettuce” since its hearts became fashionable: all you find nowadays is the hearts, and I like all of the lettuce damnit.
Mom says if I ever do live in my flat long enough for it, I should see about getting one of those gardens and have a couple of pepper bushes, half a row of tomatoes, half a row of onions, and fill the rest with black lettuce.
No cauliflower and no swiss chard, tho.
Welcome, spidey… I’d invite you over for a nice salad and a talk, but I figure we’re probably too far for that. Sorry about your friend.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’. YAWN 'Tis 60 Amurrkin out with a predicted high of 79 for the day. Everything is yellow from pine pollen. Not a big surprise but still, ick!
Welcome spidey! So sorry about the loss of your friend.
shortdrum believe it or not I do expect to be skeeterless from November through February but that did not happen this year. Stoopid skeeters.
kanga yuck about the fuel spill. I hope it does not hurt the wildlife either.
Ok, now I need me some more caffiene and I suppose some food substance for rumbly tummy. Then, alas, irk purtification must commence.
Happy Tuesday Y’all!
I am filled with much :grrrrrrrrrr: this mornng, and I can’t even blame TVCTPMO; I did it 100% to meself.
Sposetabe 70 Amurrkin today and sunny at quit o’clock, despite the current morning rain. I put my shiny new bike carrier on the FooMobile and loaded my bike to haul it to irk. That way I’d have it and I could leave my car at the orifice so I’d have it to attend my daily on-base meetings.
Weeeeeeellllllllllll, when I was backing in to my usual parking spot with bike on the back end, the front wheel was low enough that it snagged the curb. Now it’s bent to the point that the contraption is unrideable, and I foresee about $75-100 to get it rebuilt.
I should have set an alarm last night. The tree guys are supposed to come around 8 this morning, and I didn’t want to be in bed when they showed up. And instead of just setting an alarm, I kept waking up all night long. Needless to say, I’m dragging now. Maybe some breakfast and caffeine will help.
I was up late working on my latest afghan, and I’m pretty sure I can finish it this morning. Then I can toss all the afghans, hats, and scarves into the washer so they’ll be nice and clean and mostly cat hair-free when I take them to Mom tomorrow.
As **BBBobbio **said, we got rain, but it’s done, and sun and warmth are on the way (sorry about the bike - bummer.) I don’t think it’ll affect the tree guys. And they work fast - I’ll be surprised if they’re still here at lunch time. Once they’re gone, I plan to do a few things in the front yard myself.
Welcome, spidey! What a sad way to start your week.
**Kanga **- one thing about gas and oil products - it doesn’t take a lot to create what appears to be a major spill in water. Just a few drops can cover a really wide area, so maybe what you’re seeing isn’t a lot of diesel, just a lot of spreading? Hope so…
Well, off to forage for some breakfast. First step is to check to see if the milk is still good. I’m in a mood for cereal, but the milk is far enough past its “purchase by” date that it demands a sniff test. Just to be safe, you know.
Happy Tuesday!
