The Straight Dope for Women and Gay Men -or- Who is the hottest male celebrity?

Tom Ellis. Oh, my, yes.

I’m currently binge-watching Star Trek: DS9, and my eyes can’t be dragged away from Dr. Bashir, aka Alexander Siddig.

(Of course, he’s no Simon Helberg.)

As a straight guy, I’ll go along with the listing of these two.

The part about Geena Davis is cracking me up!
But yeah, back in the 80s I had dreams of being in a John Taylor, Simon LeBon, Nick Rhodes quadrupal layer sandwich. So pretty.

A … guy who drank his own pee on stage?

I was more into Roger (the drummer). I tend to like guys that are not Officially Gorgeous; from my point of view that’s fine, it means less competition.

Like, no idea why I like the guy who played Leonard in TBBT. Definitely not in the Officially Gorgeous category and there’s a screen in between so it can’t be that he smells nice…

You misspelled “Howard”.

I was sitting back to see if Leonard got a pass, though we had to defend Howard. Anyone for Raj? Stuart?

Gotta be David Thewlis. sigh

Although I wouldn’t say no to Viggo Mortensen.

Stuart’s pretty good.

When I first saw Michael Phelps they were showing pix of Mark Spitz. Man was he a hottie!
He coulda lost the 'tache, though.

I’m a straight man but if Morten were to take me by the hand and pull me backstage after this remarkable performance, I don’t know what would happen. I not attracted to him but he’s undeniably an attractive man. The crowd shots are 100% women, absolutely captivated by this very good looking and talented guy.

a-ha - Take On Me (Live From MTV Unplugged), 2017

I’ve been a low-key fan of Bo Burnham for a while now. As far as I’m concerned, he’s a comedy and musical genius. His Kanye Rant bit is clever, funny, entertaining, heartbreaking, poignant, and a perfect piece of live performance art. He’s a good looking guy with an amazing mind and seems very kind.

Bo Burnham - Can’t Handle This (Kanye Rant) - MAKE HAPPY, 2016

“Come and watch the skinny kid
with the
steadily declining mental health;
as he attempts to give you
what he cannot give himself.”

“You can tell them anything
if you just make it funny, make it rhyme.
And if they still don’t understand you
then you run it one more time.”

Personal taste is a funny thing. I always found Simon Helberg to be weirdly unattractive.

I used to have a thing for Scott Pelley, but I don’t think he’s aging well. I always pegged him as being about 10 years older than me and I was really surprised to find out I was older than him - only by a month or so, but still.

I’ve moved on to MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell.

For many years, it was Gene Wilder (may he rest in peace) who did it for me. Nowadays if I had to chose one guy, it would probably be Don Cheadle.

A few here have mentioned George Clooney. My niece lived with us for a time when she was in her early 20s. ER was a very popular show at the time. One day at the grocery we saw a copy of People magazine with the cover touting Clooney as the sexiest man alive.

“I don’t think so,” my niece said.

“He’s not even the sexiest man on ER,” I replied.

We looked at each other and said in unison, “Noah Wylie.”

Oh yeah!

Simon Helberg has beautiful eyes, and while he is a bantamweight at best, he has a pretty good physique. If you are 5’5, like I am, and would be eye-to-eye with him, those eyes would not go to waste. Also, I was brought up around yeshiva-bocher types, and he looks like the guy who would out-argue the rabbi, but then turn around and punch the shaygetz who gets fresh with the rabbi’s daughter, and sends him home crying for his mother.

That’s because REAL Poldark fans are still devoted to Robin Ellis, the original, and true, Ross. sigh

Another one that gets me going is Denzel Washington-- always has, and still does, at age 65.

The best ever, though, to my mind, is Cary Grant. Ahhhhh. Cary Grant.

Jim Parsons innt too bad either.

I believe that Sal Mineo was the most beautiful man, gay or straight, who ever lived. He was a Greek* god.

*Technically Sikel. The town of Mineo was founded by the Sikel king Duketios.

I am not the best judge of such things. Nonetheless, I find old photos of Humphrey Bogart to be distracting.

Sam Rockwell - I would watch him brush his teeth.
Steve Carell

Wesley Snipes and Denzel Washington, Joaquin Phoenix, Val Kilmer, Russell Crowe

On my IHL is Tom Cruise, Ben Affleck and Ryan Reynolds
