The Straight Dope Menagerie

PJ was dying of Cushing’s disease and we were having to put her down and I needed something to channel my grief, so I thought I’d sign up here and feel stupid for a while try to improve my mind as a distraction. So-so results. Thanks for asking.

It’s a small grotto, but we’ll fill it well.

Actually, it’s orangutans who are skeptical of changes in their cages.

Well, thanks for the compliment! I have to admit though that I’m also a cat person, at least one of the neighbors’ cats thought so and adopted me two years ago and comes visiting every other day. I call her Ada after Ada Lovelace.

The worm’s turn.

There are a few people with Rat in the name but I’m not sure if they have it in their avatars.

Cat avatar, adopted a few months ago in response to a thread about cat avatars.

(And, no, he’s not my cat; I did an image search for “Jedi cat.”)

Note, when Kenobi_Kat wants to be fed, all of a sudden, you reconsider your life choices that led to you not feeding him earlier…

Or you find a perfect circular hole burned through your pantry and a well fed cat.

Iberian lynx. It is a kind of cat, but not a domestic one. Still endangered, but getting sowly better.

waves paw “The food dish needs to be refilled, now.”

Harrumph!

There’s also @JackieLikesVariety , she has a robin.

Much sympathy, @burpo_the_wonder_mutt . We lost Max last month, and Cushing’s was one of the main reasons.

My avatar is a painting by Michael Sowa. He has done a lot of paintings that include animals. If you’ve seen the movie Amelie you’ve seen his work in her bedroom. My avatar painting is called “Herbert,” which was my dad’s name. He was the one who introduced dachshunds into our family and instilled a love of the breed in us kids.

Very funny.

The Krew send bext witches to yoor xoo, twoo. Bean, Marko, Baliff and Dorothy the Obese Pugle.

I just saw that @Bayaker has a beautiful avatar with what could be flying cranes?

And I found a picture of my cat that I like better for my avatar and changed it. The previous one is still showing up in a reply by @Celtic_Kitsune in post 56.

Studiously researching animals for avatars.

Nope. Still will be a person, but I enjoy seeing others.

Mine is (newly) my German Shorthaired Pointer x Weimeraner, Constable Huxley Tafadzwa, guardian of the front garden.

Possibly the stupidest dog alive, despite his parentage having a reputation for intelligence. But his peanut sized brain has ample supplies of serotonin and dopamine, because he is also the happiest dog I have ever known - and I grew up with Labradors.

I don’t have any avatar suited picture of my wonderful cat, St. George, who died 5 years ago. He was a total arsehole, but I loved him.

They are white ibis. That particular picture is one I found on the internet, but it is very similar to one that I took myself but couldn’t figure out how to use it on the SDMB.
