The stupid rumors about Springfield Haitians

And much before the seventies. That’s why Woodland CA has a road called Dead Cat Alley running parallel to Main Street.

Oh, heavens, no. He provided the seed money for the clinic many years ago, and went public with his own personal battles.

Sorry, I was surprised. I apologize.

“'E’s a completely 'orrible 'ateful person!”

Is this like the 'pubbies use of “My pronouns are” followed by words which certainly are not pronouns?

NBD!

When I first moved here, I didn’t know at first that it was about Robert Young, the actor. I just assumed it was named after, like, a psychiatrist who founded the clinic or something.

Wow, that’s just about perfect… Marge calling out Trump on his hypocrisy, the “45”, Flanders-as-Everyman actually standing up for them, Lisa as Anne Frank… Yeah, he did nail it.

Just a gut punch.

Well that’s easy. As soon as he, or trump, open their mouth, turn off the microphone. Don’t quote them, don’t even acknowledge that they exist. It’s the only way to be sure they’re not lying.

Such winning.

As I just posted in the How Has Trump Pissed You Off thread, he and Vance had been assured the rumors were false before trump even claimed it at the debates.

A Haitian group is filing “citizen criminal charges” against Trump and Vance for their actions vis-a-vis Springfield:

Trump and Vance, a U.S. senator from Ohio, are charged with disrupting public services, making false alarms, telecommunications harassment, aggravated menacing and complicity. The filing asks the Clark County Municipal Court to affirm that there is probable cause and issue arrest warrants against Trump and Vance.

Cross your fingers for those arrest warrants…

I think its going to be pretty hard to get an indictment on those. Trump and Vance didn’t call in the bomb threats, or directly order them (at least I don’t think), and laws on instigation require that the actions are taken immediately after being instigated.

This is why we need hate speech laws, or possibly, on the civil level, class action defamation.

Yeah, I am not a lawyer but even my minimal knowledge of the law suggests that there is a zero percent chance of this going anywhere.

It’s pretty much a publicity stunt to point out how much of a destructive, hateful, and dangerous shitbag both Trump and Vance are, and on that front I say more power to you folks.

…said by the people who also freak the fuck out every time the media fact-checks them.

The problem is their base admires, adores, and clamors for more of that.

They really mean the media should repeat and amplify their lie. And all to often mainstream news outlets are to reluctant to call a lie a lie, and comply.
“Unsubstantiated rumor”
“Claim without evidence”

Multisyllabic nonsense that leaves open an option for partial truth. It’s infuriating.

Calling someone a liar assigns intent. They can factually state that something is false and they can factually state that a person has repeated a falsehood, but calling somebody a liar is editorializing.

No it’s not. You don’t have to have the intent to lie to be a liar; you merely have to produce lies. Intent can qualify it (“malicious” or “vicious “), but merely telling untruths is enough to earn the basic label.

I don’t think there’s the lesser charge of “truthslaughter,” but maybe there should be.

So if I get in a bar argument about who won best picture in 1988 and it turns out I was wrong, I’m a liar?

I mean of course Trump is a vicious liar, but the journalist’s job is to report on what is said, not to make inferences about whether or not he believes what he’s saying.

Check the dictionary, or pretty much any website that discusses the concept of lying, or really almost anybody who speaks English: lying requires an intent to deceive.
