Nope, no cell phones in the house. Steve has his at work, and mine is in my car. Nor has my purse moved since I came back from the store yesterday. Guess again.
What’s weird is the sound seems to move as I’m standing in one spot in the kitchen. I turn to face where I think it’s coming from, and it then sounds like it’s somewhere else. Too bizarre…
SUCCESS!! It was the dishwasher! Apparently I’d opened it before its rinse cycle was done, and it was reminding me to shut the door so it could finish. Once I did that, it ran all of 3 seconds. No more beep.
Altho I’m still not sure why the sound appeared to move. Anyway, blessed silence…
Last night’s adventure was being stopped by PD for “suspicious bed making”! :smack:
Have a partially covered deck off the bedroom. It’s great, sleep out there on an air mattress all summer. Since I’ve never slept out there in March & it’s been so mild, I dragged it out last night. Usually fill the mattress about 3/4, put the sheet on then fill it the rest of the way. Because there’s no lights out there, I was using a flashlight to see what I was doing. Local LEO was parked nearby & saw the flashlight late at night & came to investigate. Had the electric pump whirring away as he came around the corner, so I couldn’t hear what he said, but could see him talking into the mike, then he shined his flashlight on me.
Happy Firday to all of us!!1!!! Going to the ballet tomorrow (Giselle) then to the Berghoff restaurant for din-din. I know I’m having creamed spinach and N.O.T. pancakes. But do I wash that down with root beer or bourbon? Berghoff does their own of each and they’re dang good.
I’ve been relaxing and enjoying my RDO. I’m going to have to hop in the shower soon, but for now, it’s nice to have some peace and quiet and the place to myself.
I let PapaJohn make lunch since they sent me a deal via email. While I was going to pick it up, **FCD **called and told me he was on his way home. That was 45 minutes ago and he’s still not here. That means he stopped to spend money.
I’ve eaten, and I’ve got 2 loads of laundry on the line, so it’s time to dig in dirt…

High-pitched beeps can be challenging to locate. Back when I was in high school, one of the more popular kits offered to the electronics students was a thing called a “Librarian Tormenter” as it would semi-randomly go BEEP! every few minutes.
A couple of weeks ago, we were drifting off to sleep, only to be startled awake by periodic beeping. Thinking it was the freshly installed alarm system, we were on the phone with them, running through diagnostics. Twenty minutes later, we got it to the point of being disconnected from AC power and the internal backup battery was out and it was still beeping. We eventually realized a temporarily parked bookcase at the other end of the hall was resting against a carbon monoxide detector just enough to annoy it. :smack:
What makes it all the more ludicrous is that last week, we accidentally set off the alarm at night and had no idea anything was wrong until the company called us. Turns out the first installer forgot to connect the siren. Doofus.
**gotti **- that would explain the appeal of those Think Geek gadgets that randomly beep! What was really weird, I was sure the sound was coming from some place high in the room, not under the counter.
I’m taking a break from futzing in the garden. It’s hot, I’m sweaty and dirty, and my back is starting to ache. Getting old sucks!! I moved a couple of big hosta bunches, a couple of small hosta, 3 bunches of day lilies, and a plant that would take over the front garden if I let it. I’m moving that beast to the front hill, hoping it’ll choke out the grass where it’s impossible to mow. I also planted 2 peony bulbs and set up the sprinkler. **FCD **just got back from shopping for a chain saw - must see if he bought one…
I have to type up this thing for my boss. It’s killing me. My eyes hurt and are all unfocused and I don’t want to do this anymore, but it’s a priority so I have to.
I just have to make it until 1:30, then Faire!
Oh, and they finally called about that apartment I want to see. The appointment is Monday at 10:30. WTH? Do they expect people who are looking for a cheap home to not work? sigh … it’s okay, I can make up the hour on Friday …
I am typing to you on my trusty netbook this morning. My laptop, which I bought a little less than 3 years ago, has died suddenly. It comes up to the POST(?) screen and just sits there.
Fortunately I built a new business desktop computer in January, so nothing I can’t live without was on the laptop, but now I wish I had backed up my documents folder more often.
I shoulda known. I’ve never had a laptop last me more than 3 years. My desktops seem to go on forever, however. My last desktop (10+ years old) is in the closet, 'cause it ain’t dead, it’s just painfully slow. When i get time, and another monitor for it, I’ll probably load Linux or something on it to play with.
Moooooom, we have fiber optic into our house, and it has a battery backup box screwed to the wall in the back room. Every so often it will decide that it’s battery needs to be changed and it will start to beep. Trouble is, it only beeps once every 5 minutes or so. It took me 3 days to find it the first time. What’s really annoying about it is that the battery doesn’t really need to be changed. It never gets used except when there’s a power outage, which we haven’t had in years. It’s just stoopid. All I do is disconnect the power for 3 or 4 minutes and it resets itself.
I think those beeperes are designed so that you can’t locate them aurally.
Don’t know what dindin will be tonight. Wifey has to show a house at 5:30 tonight and who knows when she’ll be home. Maybe Papa Murphy’s?
Yep, a Stihl it is. Our old one was a Stihl - it was his dad’s and it’s older than our daughter is - done wore out, tho.
I’m thinking I need some ibuprofen before I start aching too bad. Not sure if I’ve got enough oomph to do any more today.
We got a notice from the MVA that we no longer had insurance on our Mazda. Well, duh! We traded it in on the Sonata, and transferred the tags. The Sonata registration has the same tag number as the Mazda. But that’s not good enough for Motor Vehicles - I need to find the bill of sale and take it in or fax it (the office is just a few miles from here) so they can clear the record. You’d think their data base would cross check this sort of thing.
Howdy Y’all! Home from irk for a while before headin’ on over to the church house to once again cook stuff.
MOOOOOOM you should know better. Those MVA places are not designed to make sense. They are designed to aggravate the general public.
One time a smoke detector in the kitchen beeped. I looked at it and said “HUSH!” It didn’t beep anymore. Then again I do replace the batteries twice a year. I chose January and July as the months to do that just cause.
Today has been a busy day of supplier meetings and contract discussions. I really need to do one more project before I leave but my motivation really got up and went. It is Friday, the sun is shining after the buckets of rain this week and there is no-one in the office. I was wondering this morning when I came in if I had missed a holiday or something. There were a few people arrived after me but the parking lot is emptying out quickly. mr ems just texted he is on his way home so now I really wanna go home. Le sigh. It is so hard to be me.
Enjoy your RDO taters
Good luck with beeping things everyone who has them
I’ll go even better. We got a letter from the mortgage company threatening to us with the cost of a forcibly purchased homeowner’s policy on the former NC VunderLair yesterday.
We signed a deed, an affidavit stating there were no property liens, and a settlement on the mortgage as a deed-in-lieu of foreclosure. All properly notarized and promptly returned. As far as I can tell, the property is no longer ours as of the date of notarization.
I sent them a fax last night telling them the property is theirs, so deal with it, and I attached the scanned copies of all the crap we signed. I’m just waiting for the next round of that fight…
In more mundane happenings, the [del]hay is baled[/del]yahd is mowed, bushes trimmed, and more weeds sprayed. I’s tahred…
Boys and their toys… **FCD **brought his shiny new chainsaw home and proceeded to cut down 3 dead pine trees and a dead spruce. I get to load the detritus on the trailer because it hurts his back. Lucky me. I need to keep him under control, tho, because he cut down a live hardwood. Granted it was small, but it wasn’t supposed to go away.
I have to say, tho, it’s a really nice saw. It looks like our old one, but it sure doesn’t act like our old one.
No idea what we’re going to do for supper. However, I need to bring the stuff in off the line. Back to domestical stuff.
Well, I took the battery out of the laptop and plugged it into the wall, and it started right up. I don’t know what’s going on here, but I’m backing up all my documents, and then I’ll mess with it some more.
Then I think I’ll finish mowing the lawn. I mowed the front and part of the side yard the other day, but then I killed the mower and couldn’t get it restarted. It’s had a few days to think about it now, so we’ll see.
