this wasnt no general question, perhaps i didnt swear sodding enough to make this a proper pit thread…!!! (or ???)
some of my threads i have started in the great debates have been moved to the pit because the … thought one couldnt debate the subject and so on and so on.
basically, on way to many occations the … have moved or closed a thread i made because the threads purpose or intent was misunderstood.
what the bloody buggers were you thinking? what on earth gave you the idea i was making a “general question”
i was bitching and moaning about the idiocy of the general public and them stupid dopers that dont use descriptive subjects…
bj0rn - Upon reading the thread in question I’ve noticed something. You yourself admit that there was a valid question in your OP. Now maybe you asked a valid question to justify your bitching - or maybe you were doing a little bitching about a valid subject. It certainly looked like the latter and it’s not uncommon to see that in GQ.
I understand that english isn’t your first languange, but if you can’t be bothered to make yourself understood then you have no one to blame but yourself when your thread is moved.
The truth is, there is a huge conspiracy here where your threads are concerned. You see, bjOrn, the whole wide world is against you. Everybody is going out of their way to make your life a living hell. Can’t find your favourite food at the grocery store? The management compiled a list of your favourite snacks and stopped importing them. You missed your bus? They changed the schedules without telling you. You lost your pet? Your neighbour ate it. Your threads are getting moved? That’s the work of the Illuminati. People don’t understand your threads? That’s what happens when you’re dealing with the Intelligentsia. Can’t find the shift key? The CIA implanted a chip in your brain. Run, bjOrn, run!
Yes, bj0rn, we’re all against you. Now please read the forum descriptions AGAIN, and come back. Then tell us if you STILL think your thread was in the right forum.
Either you’re stupid, or you’re deliberately acting stupid. In any case, it’s getting pretty old after such a long time.
my last thread, which i provided a link for earlier in this thread was:
a. a flame against the millenium hypers from a year ago
b. a flame against non-descriptive subject posters
this thread is:
a. complaint regarding administration of the SDMB
b. i am flaming the “regarding administrations of the SDMB”
c. shut the … up!
You asked, among other things, “what is it called in english when years meet?” That’s a pit thread? If your other questions about the lack of millenium hype this year were intended to be a rant, they weren’t phrased very well. The were phrased like other GQ millenium questions have been.
No you weren’t. The only mention of “descriptive subjects” was in the title. You didn’t even touch upon it in the OP. Instead you posted stuff about the millenium.
In short, bjOrn, your OP was all over the place and I didn’t know what the hell to do with it. I know english isn’t your forte but your OP didn’t read like a rant and therefore seemed inappropriate for the Pit.
Yes, bj0rn, this thread is in the right forum. Although it wouldn’t hurt you to actually pull out the fucking profanity instead of those nancy li’l *'s and “…”'s.
For your reading pleasure:
That’s where your closed thread should have been. If you disagree, maybe you ought to make it more apparent that it is, indeed, a flame the next time around.
Geesh! Am I the only one who understands bj0rn-ese? His earlier thread made sense to me. I emailed Alphagene asking why it was shut down. Here is the text of the email that I sent to him:
His response was along the lines of this, said earlier in the thread:
Okay, fine.
But why the hostility? I am particularly wondering why you, Coldfire, are so hostile to bj0rn?
In short, because bj0rn ought to know better by now. If you really want to know, do a search for bj0rns posts. You’ll find that he has been pulling this sort of stunt for ages now.
Na, I understand Bj0rnese and I don’t mind it – although I can see why some people find it irritating.
Yes, the thread title was a nicely crafted rhetorical device. Ironic, self-deprecating, self-referential and all. From which – the odd bit of vocabulary notwithstanding – you could conclude the “unfamiliarity with english” stuff is schtick. His posting style is somewhat opaque and deliberately so.
Now (without wanting to second guess Coldfire or Alphagene) that does IMHO make it inappropriate to post it in the pit. The “Isn’t it time the millenium hypers got going seeing as it is the real millenium now” bit is fine MPSIMS or IMHO stuff. It’s not a sincere rant, it’s wry observation. Why post it in the pit? To get on the cross.
At this point his tongue almost pierces his cheek.
I have to agree with Green Bean here. Although I’m not one of the “Founding Dopers”, I’ve been lurking and posting long enough here to be quite familiar with bj0rn and his posting style.
I can agree that it’s usually extremely difficult to comprehend what he’s trying to say. I have also been somewhat offended by some of the stuff he’s written. The thing is, he’s no worse than most of the other posters on here. There are a ton of people here who can’t manage to put together a lucid sentence. There are even more who spout opinions that are personally offensive to me.
Why does bj0rn, in particular, ruffle your feathers so much? He’s harmless. If you don’t like his posting style, don’t read his threads. Coldfire & Alphagene, since you’re mods, I guess you have to read his threads, but maybe there’s a possibility that you’re being harder on him than you would someone else? It just seems that you all have a thorn up your butt where bj0rn is concerned.
bj0rn, maybe you should just ask for your user name to be changed…you might have a better reception.
Most posters? A ton of people? It seems to be that most people here can write a comprehensible most. The ones that are often incomprehensible (bjOrn, peace, et. al.) seem to be the exception rather than the rule.
If you’re talking about posting things that are controversial or potentially offensive, then I’ll agree there are a lot of posters that fit that desription. Frankly, that’s what makes this place interesting to me. Who wants to hang around (IRL or otherwise) with a bunch of people who have the same exactly the same opinions? Not me, that’s for sure.
Green, maybe I can be more eloquent in this post than I was in that email. I kind of banged out all my emails last night with a minimum of coherency.
bjOrn is more than welcome to repost a rant about the lack of millenium hype in the Pit. I personally see a thraed like that to be just a slight variation of the “2001 is the real millenium” threads we had in large numbers around this time last year, but a rant is a rant and I’d allow it.
But how do you go from descriptive titles to millenium hype to Icelandic-to-English translations and still consider your thread to be a rant? This isn’t an english language issue. It’s a composition issue. I seriously doubt that citizens of Iceland are that chaotic and unfocused in their conversation.
I’m sure if I went over to Reykjavík and attempted to start a conversation saying “What’s wrong with Bjork? I dunno. Why do volcanos keep erupting here? And what’s the Icelandic word for magma?” and attempted to describe my quote as a rant about Bjork, people there would look at me weird. And rightfully so.
And I didn’t think I was particularly hostile in my posts directed towards bjOrn. I’m curious as to what particular quote of mine anyone found hostile. What does bother me is when people go into a woe-is-me routine whenever a thread of theirs gets closed or moved. Please note that this is quite different from someone posting a question asking why a thread was moved or closed. That’s perfectly acceptable. But bjOrn isn’t asking why, he’s acting like a victim of a petty theft. There’s a huge difference in my mind between “Hey, Alpha, why did you close my thread? It seemed OK to me.” and “what the bloody buggers were you thinking?”
