Hurrah! It’s firday! Even better than that, we’ve been paid and the sun’s out. Can it get any better?
I have had such a busy week, I’m surprised I managed to fit everything in. Stuff outside work has been pretty crazy, but I have somehow been able to shoe-horn all the stuff I needed to do into the available time without wearing myself out.
This weekend I am helping my friend clear her garage before the builders roll through it with a mini-digger to sort out the drains at the house and build a new patio. I am hoping we get done by Saturday afternoon but it’s looking doubtful as I’ve seen how much stuff she’s got crammed in there.
Saturday night we’re all going out for birthday drinks for 'im indoors, and on Sunday night I’m taking him to see a Marxist philosopher stand-up comedian called Mark Steel so that should be a laugh.
Next week I will be busy too - going to see one of my favourite bands on Friday then we’re up at stupid o’clock on Saturday to fly to Germany for a weekend at Rock am Ring. Have tent, will travel!
Happy Firday all! Groceries have been bought and lunch is on the go - chicken, cheese and avocado on toasted whole-wheat bread with a side of steak fries. Nom nom nom. After that, we shall all hide inside until it is no longer 111°F/44°C outside!
You know the old thing, “Don’t get your tit caught in a wringer”? According to my dad, when he and my aunt were teenagers, she did that for real. Probably made mammograms for her easy by comparison…
Happy Firday blurfs. No big plans for the weekends, 'cept for duty tomorrow night.
We had a good light show with the rain last night. It left behind my favorite summerish morning fog today.
It’s not payday, but it is Firday for me as well as actually being Firday. Yay!
Blurf. Caffeination will commence in a couple of minutes. Kitteh has been fed since I was informed that she was staaaaaaarving. Never mind that there was still food in her dish when I went to bed. Cats.
Firday, yup. Payday, nope. But that’s ok. It’s the start of summer hours with half-day Fridays. Or would have been if I had made my grocery list previously and wasn’t still sitting here trying to figure out what the heck to buy at the grocery store.
And I’ve been trying to write an email to Mom to try to convince them to come here for xmas. She has said previously that they won’t travel between Oct and Apr because it’s too cold here and it might snow and they might get stranded in an airport somewhere. I don’t think she’s entirely joking. But I really want them to spend one Christmas here, and it’s not going to get easier as they get older. So I’ve been working on a persuasive email. We’ll see how it does.
I think maybe I have the grocery list wrapped up and can actually get out of here. Blah… I so don’t feel like going to the store. But I’d rather do it now than later!
You know those steel desks that used to be everywhere in the gummint? I had one of those when I worked at Jax. I was leaning over some drawings one day when the middle drawer was open a wee bit. I leaned forward, closing the drawer. It was mucho painful. Fortunately, I was working alone late that night, so I was able to *yowch *out loud without disturbing (or explaining to) coworkers.
The accordion was a big hit! All the kids got a chance to try it, and daughter/teacher took photos of each one - parents are in for a nice surprise!
Home. Starved. Dunno what we’ll do for supper, but we need to do it soon.
I’s postin’ from my brand new desktop puter! YAAAAAAAAAY!!!
Ok, new puter, new mouse, new keyboard but same old monitor. It’s a nice flat screen that I really like so I didn’t need no brand new stinkin’ monitor.
It’s Firday but I’m on new schedule, so I work tomorrow but am off Sunday and Monday. Ain’t too shabby IMO.
Yays, boos, hugs, trouts, chitlins, noogies, how you doin’s. Distribute as needed.
I found out I can’t get unemployment because they changed the rules about GAs paying unemploment tax or whatever. Whatever. I did manage to find out when thesis director is going to be in his office so I can chase him down on Monday.
Oh, I forgot to share - a certain evil feline decided he needed to pee on my pillow this morning. No, I wasn’t sleeping - I was almost dressed and ready to head out when I noticed his posture over my pillow. The brat! I had to strip the bed immediately - thankfully, the mattress pad protected the mattress. But I tossed it all in the washer - except the pillow - I rinsed it in the deep sink, then washed it when I got home. It’s in the dryer. He’s on The List!
**FCD **is pissed - he was denied his workman’s comp claim and his bosses won’t do anything about it. He’s dusting off his resume - who needs to work for a company like that??
We went to a BBQ place for supper, and it didst suck mightily! I ordered the turkey BBQ sammich. I got turkey lunch meat warmed up and served on white bread that got all soggy before I was halfway done eating. **FCD **got ribs which tasted OK, but they were fatty and not falling off the bones - ugh. We shall never return there, that’s for sure.
Dolores, Hi! Sorry I didn’t respond to your post from before. I missed it as I was skimming.
Yeah, it isn’t fun to work on a weekend but Overtime makes it definitely worth it.
I’m home after a long day followed by running a bunch of errands. I got all sorts of exciting things like shaving cream, paper plates, and medicine.
Now I’m thinking about not making dinner (had a big-ass grilled chick-chick Caesar salad for lunch so I’m full), and am currently working my way through a delightful homemade Cheap Red Wine Cooler. Ingredients: Almaden Box o’ Cab Wine and Generic No Carb Artificially Sweetened Diet Peach Seltzer. It sounds gross but it’s actually pretty good.
It rained here earlier for about two hours but now the sun is coming out.
I’m going home to my parents’ house this weekend to weed my mom’s garden. I don’t mind; I love weeding. It’s all about making order from chaos. I just don’t like actually planting or tending flowers.
Also I got an email from the woman in DC about my play. She is arranging a private reading of the piece for an independent film director in the beginning of July. Apparently this woman is not just an actress but actually some kind of producer locally. I just got the email when I got home. Now I am all nervous because I am NOT an artist or a playwright really and I have to go meet a bunch of these people when they do the reading.
I wish they could just do it without me but I have a feeling probably not. I really had no idea that this would happen. I mainly wrote the play as therapy and originally submitted it to the Baltimore Playwright’s Festival because I hate to do something and not have any purpose to it, so I was like, I need to send this somewhere because it’s dumb to go to all this trouble for nothing. I knew about the Festival from a guy I took an acting workshop with years ago.
Okay, this too long. Sorry but I had to get this out.
taxi, that Target must be the one at South Hill Mall, which you can see off of Hwy 512.
**FCM, **the news about the workman’s comp does suck mightily. Is he going to fight it?
I saw an accident on the way home. It must have happened mere minutes before I got there; emergency vehicles weren’t even there yet. I don’t even know how it happened, but someone’s car was upside down in a yard. He (or she) snapped a power pole in half on the way in. The top half of the pole was hanging there suspended, held up by the power lines. As there were large groups of people already running over, and several people standing there, I didn’t stop. Within a couple of minutes of passing the scene, a fire truck raced by me.
I could hear some of the people telling others to stay back because gas was leaking. I hope no one was hurt, but I couldn’t tell. Nothing on any of the local news sites yet.
It is absolutely gorgeous out. I’ve got some boneless, skinless chicken boobies marinating in a teriyaki mixture. In a bit, I’ll commence with grilling them. I was going to make them last night, but the breasts were still frozen. We ended up getting take out from Sonic. Twas tasty.
I came home from worked and napped. Then I walked the dogs, took out the trash, cleaned the kitchen counters, started dinner, and started laundry. I’m productive when I wanna be.
Congrats, Creaky! I hope it goees well.
Yay for a new 'puter, swampy!
Sorry about the cat and the “bbq”, FCM. Yay for accordions and FCD finding a better job!
snowbunny, both Nelly and Gordie have been known to carry the food dish into the room when it’s empty.
Hooray employee barbecues, puggy! Boo smashed appendages(I once smashed my finger in the safe door at work )!
Scenes like that are scary, for completely non-obvious reasons. There’s all kinds of EMT horror stories of Bubba and Buford vehicular extractions where the patient winds up paralyzed or with an amputation that would otherwise not have happened if fire/rescue got to them first.
I’ve done one accident on the commute where I just crawled into the wrecked car to hold the woman’s head straight until the fire department got there with tools to extract her. The rest have been quick trauma checks where the people could walk out.
Fairy Chat Mom, Dude! I so know those desks and they weighed like 16 tons. You got your boob caught in one of those drawers? Man, I used to be annoyed that I had no boobs but not anymore.
Also, I’m sorry that the cat peed on your pillow and your husband was denied WC. That happened to me once at a private sector nonprofit and it does blow big chunks.
On the other hand you can play the accordion and make pots and that is cool. I can’t even play a kazoo! :o
dogbutler, thank you! I’m trying not to get too excited yet because let’s face it, how much stuff is “in development” that never gets done? But honestly I am just happy it got this far!
At 4:47 this morning (I know, because I looked at the clock) I heard an annoying scratching in the bathroom. It was Scruffy, scratching the rug. After the tinkle-on-the-pillow with idiot cat yesterday, I got all paranoid and immediately let the dog out. She wandered around outside for 15 minutes. eeesh. Anyway, by that time, I was sorta awake., but I may crawl back into bed in a bit.
I think we’re going to the boat today. Steve found our big headsail and I’m pretty sure he wants to put it on. Neither of us can recall why we took it off - he thought it was torn, I thought it was bagged out. But I guess today it’ll go back on the forestay.
No idea what else the weekend holds - at least 2 loads of laundry, for sure, since my baskets of whites and jeans are both full. Probably some cleaning and cooking and knitting, too. Wish it had held more sleep. Perhaps I’ll rejoin my sweetie…
