This title seems familiar - we may have used it before. Who cares - it’s a classic!
For most folks, summer means vacation. Or at least taking a little time off. Share your summer plans, even if they’ll make the rest of us jealous!
I’d start, but I have no plans. Spousal unit will spend most of the summer recovering from tomorrow’s surgery and I haven’t been on the job long enough to have accrued any vacation time. So we’ll just keep on keepin’ on…
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis <snerk> 69! <snerk> Amurrkin outand clear with a predicted high of 93 and sunny for the day. 'Tis Summer in south Jawja for real!
Also today is Memorial Day in the USofA, at least. Today we remember all those who have died in military service to our country. We certainly do remember and honor those who have fallen.
OK, I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy demands sustenance. Then, well, no big plans, just onward into the day.
It’s late spring bank holiday here, so a bonus day off work for me but I have domestic stuff to do that I didn’t do yesterday. We don’t really have memorial day etc, we have an Armed Forces Day, and of course in November we have Remembrance Day. But most of us remember every day, one way or another.
So today’s plans include cleaning the windowsills around the house because they are looking a bit grubby, going to the gym later, sorting out the bins for collection tomorrow, and it’s my turn to cook tonight.
Up after 7 hours sleep (my brain still hasn’t got this retirement thing down yet).
Vacation this year will be at the end of June with a group of friends to South Africa and Zambia (for Victoria Falls). After that there are house repairs and other things to be done, so any further travels will be of limited duration.
FCM, read about the flooding from the storm, hope everything is OK.
Blurf so, I have an extra day off irk and I needed it. No real plans for the day except a trip to the grocery store. Our oven is still broke so whatever I cook today will have to be on the stove top or crock pot or George Forman. Part to fix oven is in route.
MetalMouse - things are much better this morning, but I expect the basement will be damp for a while.
For those who don’t follow me religiously on FB, we had a torrential downpour last night and the drain from under the deck leading out beyond the house apparently is clogged, so a mighty pool formed outside the basement doors and seeped thru the inadequate seals. I figure, with the help of the wet/dry vac, I got up between 30-40 gallons. At one point, I tried to lift a too-full vac to dump it, and I hurt my back. Dammit.
After I got most of the water in the back of the shop, I was able to set the vac over the deep sink, suck up the water at that end of the basement, and drain it directly from the vac. **FCD **gave me some extension hoses, allowing me to reach most of the pooling. (The floor is very uneven.) I used a broom to push the rest within reach of the vac.
Dunno how long I was down there, but I got most of the water up. We have a dehumidifier, which I cranked up to max, and I set up two oscillating fans. By this morning, it was looking much drier. After today, we’re promised several dry days, so I’ll open the basement windows and hope it’ll dry completely.
Meanwhile, my back is achy. I just popped some ibuprofen - hope it helps. We don’t need 2 back surgeries in one house. No, I think I just pulled a muscle - no major damage. <fingers crossed>
No, we planned it for about a month and kept it very, very quiet. It was hard not to tell anyone! Last week was the worst; I worked for three days and just didn’t care about work at all. We only invited my dad and his parents. They were the witnesses and we just went to a Justice of the Peace, and then spent the weekend with the folks.
I figured the money we saved on a big wedding, we can use to take an international trip next year! His parents plan to throw us a party in August.
