The White House is warning Washington Post reporter David Farenthold that he needs to stop reporting on their misdoings because they are collating a “dossier” on him.
…Yet Trump is using the RNC to show the nation what he has learned over the past four years: the power of impunity. Throughout the convention, Trump, his family, and his aides are using the backdrop of the federal government, in defiance of precedent, propriety, and likely federal law. The president is not so much showing the majesty of the federal government—this is not its finest hour—as reveling in the knowledge that no one can or will stop him. It is a flex for its own sake, and at heart, that is his message about what he will deliver in a second term, too…
I’m beginning to think that the fate of the Republic may lie with flipping the Senate this year. The Presidency is too subject to shenanigans and the electoral college – but if we just turn 5 seats blue, Trump may find out that he doesn’t have as much impunity as he thought.
It’s not looking good even if Biden wins. Biden winning is the minimum required to keep America a functioning democratic republic, but even if he wins, it might still not be enough. He’ll be handed a shit sandwich of epic proportions, and he’ll probably have limited time - maybe a year - to give people the impression that he is capable of fixing it.
The Republican party and the millions who support them are a clear and present danger to the future of this country, and they seem perfectly willing to start a civil war if they don’t get the country they want. We’re already in a low-grade civil war now.
Anyone who thinks Putin doesn’t have serious inside access to Trump and the White House, and that he isn’t playing Trump like a little puppet master, is probably consuming magic mushrooms on a regular basis.
