The Trump Administration: A Clusterfuck in the Making Part Deux (Part 1)

I’m sorry, but I’m finding it hard to whip up a lot of outrage against long lines on the first day of early voting. I’m highly outraged by long lines on Election Day and I think that’s voter suppression, but I think that standing in an all day line on the first day of early voting is a way to make at statement, and in most cases it’s totally voluntary. Yes, I bet a lot of people saw that line and said “not today”, but I bet they all come back and vote before or on Election Day.

Now if there is some poor soul out there that is leaving for a three week vacation today and if that poor soul decided not to vote by mail because they’d still be in town on the first day of early voting then didn’t get to vote because they didn’t plan on a long line and didn’t have time - yes, that sucks and it shouldn’t have happened. But that poor soul also should’ve planned their vote better, there are plenty of options this year and they’ve all been publicized in a way they haven’t been before.

Early voting starts today in my state, I imagine I’ll see long lines on the news tonight. I’m not going to vote today. I’ll wait until midday Tuesday or Wednesday and I’m confident I can cast my vote without a substantial wait.

I understand your point, but it is a sad commentary that you have to “plan your vote”. If voting were perceived as easy and fair, then a lot fewer people would feel the need to make a statement and stand in line on day one. Humans being humans there would still be a relatively long lines on the first day and actual election day, but I doubt they would be 11 hours long.

If we have 2 years (preferably, 4) of a Democratic House, Democratic Senate and a Democrat President, we might be able to actually fix some problems - like undoing voter suppression - instead of making things worse. A guy can dream…

For awhile I didn’t understand the answer. I kept thinking “who’s Amy?” because I assumed he was referring to a staffer or family who’s also recovering from a Covid infection.

Then I realized he meant ACB; he was conflating an answer about how well his son was recovering from a potentially fatal infection to how well his political appointee was doing in the nomination process. Wow.

I can just imagine his answer if, God forbid, his son was doing badly against the virus: “Barron’s losing the battle, just like the Democrats will lose the battle to win the White House and Senate”.

If the Democrats fix a few things in the next 2 years, then they may be able to have another 2 to keep fixing things.

Remember that you’re speaking from a position of privilege. Yes, you can probably take off work and go to vote, and if the lines are too long, just take off work another day and go then. But not everyone has that flexibility with their job, childcare, transportation, etc. For some people, if they can’t vote on the day they planned, then they can’t vote.

It is possible that he just didn’t know who they were referring to.

You expect him to remember all his kids names? He can barely remember “man woman person camera tv.”

Yeah, didn’t he refer to Barron as “Melania’s son” once?

Not really speaking from any sort of position of privilege. If I could not have voted this Monday, I’d have one other chance next week, and if I couldn’t do that, then I would have had to go on election day.

But, the whole point of having early voting is to give people the flexibility to fit it into our schedule. We have nearly a month.

If someone planned on voting on the first day that it was open, then they should expect some ridiculousness. Everything is always the busiest on the first (and last) days that it is open.

I was expecting a 4 or 5 hour line, actually. Made sure I was well drained and comfortable before I left.

I remember the time he said “Melania has a son. … together.”

Two and a half months after hurricane Isaias hit North Carolina, the administration approves a disaster area declaration for several coastal counties. Probably because it would be a disaster for him to lose NC.

The disaster declaration request was in the mail for the last two and a half months.

They didn’t release the emails, they released photos of the emails.

Hope Hicks is back on the campaign plane, sans mask.

Twitter is demanding that people stop retweeting the New York Post story about Hunter Biden. If they refuse to delete their posts, their accounts are blocked. So far Kayleigh McEnany and the official Team Trump accounts have been blocked. In response, the Senate Judiciary Committee is considering subpoenaing the CEO of Twitter to demand answers from him about why he’s censoring conservatives,

Jesus Christ. Republicans love to play the victim card. “Boo Hoo. Poor Us. Not allowed to lie or make up stuff told to us by unreliable Russian Operatives.”

There’s also the whole “government regulation of business is bad” thing. So if Twitter really is censoring conservatives, it shouldn’t be a problem.

Melanie. er, I mean Melania.

If you voted for Trump in 2016, then fuck you:

What’s this story about? I couldn’t tell from that Twitter link.
