Totally off-topic fun fact: I bought my first house from Robert Ettinger, the ‘father of cryonics’, who was name-checked in that cryonics article you linked to. I hope, for his sake, they do wait a little while longer before they try thawing him out.
Tapes from Jared Kushner’s interview with Bob Woodward in April have been released. It sounds more like the secrets they’d whisper to each other, not stuff they’d willingly tell a journalist. Some choice quotes:
“We’ve now put out rules to get back to work. Trump’s now back in charge. It’s not the doctors.”
“The states have to own the testing. The federal government should not own the testing. And the federal government should not own kind of the rules. It’s got to be up to the governors…But the President also is very smart politically with the way he did that fight with the governors to basically say, no, no, no, no, I own the opening. Because again, the opening is going to be very popular. People want this country open. But if it opens in the wrong way, the question will be, did the governors follow the guidelines we set out or not?”
“He basically did a full hostile takeover of the Republican Party…You look at, like, the Republican Party platform, it’s a document meant to, like, piss people off basically.”
“The most dangerous people around the president are over-confident idiots. Right? Because that has a way, sometimes, of getting past his defense mechanism because if you’re overconfident, then sometimes, you know, on a topic where he doesn’t have other people around to kind of validate it, then he can sometimes say, okay, let’s go with that…We’ve gotten rid of a lot of the over-confident idiots, and now he’s got a lot more thoughtful people who kind of know their place and know what to do.”
Is there something specific that Hogan did, or is it just because he a Republican? (not that being a Republican isn’t good enough reason to vote against him).
Yeah, but in that case it was the politician deciding to stay out in the cold and rain, and he suffered the consequences.
In this case Trump went back to his warm, comfy, cozy jet after the speech and left the attendees to tough it out in the cold and wet for hours while the buses didn’t pick them up.
He wrote in Ronald Reagan on his ballot instead of just voting for Biden. It was a stupid pointless gesture and waste of a vote. To be honest I voted for Hogan last time and thought he did a fairly good job of handling the pandemic and stuff. But people know what’s at stake this time and they shouldn’t be throwing their votes away with stupid stunts.
However, given what we see with voter suppression, the GOP seems to value a ‘non-vote for the other guy’ just as highly, if not higher, than a vote for their guy.
So I’m perfectly fine with Trump 2016 voters not voting for the other guy (Trump). I don’t care who they vote for: 1 less vote for Trump = 1 less vote Biden needs to gain.
William Henry Harrison died of pneumonia. Standing outside in the rain does NOT cause pneumonia. There is no evidence that it can increase the risk of pneumonia. Being inside with infected people can cause pneumonia because pneumonia is an infectious disease caused by viruses or bacteria. Can we please, please stop saying that being outside in cold wet weather causes infections? Science is important.
