And how’d those transit buses get there if the roads to the airport were all one-way outbound?

I just read a report about this, and it’s even worse than I had heard.

A lot of Trump supporters were elderly. Some of them had to be taken away in ambulances.

It sometimes seems as if Trump is trying to kill off his base. Why drag them out into the cold and dark without adequate transportation in the middle of a pandemic that’s hitting that area particularly hard? Luring the vulnerable out into a situation that’s perfect for lowering their resistance is downright criminal. I’ll bet most of them weren’t even wearing masks.

Of course, packing them all onto busses in the middle of a pandemic is not really the best of ideas either.

But then, it’s only a week till the election, most of them should survive that long, even if they die of Covid a week later.

But if the story is true, it seems that they did have a plan to bus them back, and the buses were there; they just couldn’t make the trip back out to the venue to pick up more passengers after the first load, because the road was made one-way.

So, they had a plan that ignored the reality on the ground, they failed to coordinate with the people actually responsible for controlling traffic flow, and had no fall back options.

Yeah, that’s a pretty good example of a “clusterfuck”.

And sure enough…

Thousands of people packed Trump’s outdoor rally in Omaha on Tuesday. Though the campaign checked attendees’ temperatures and provided them with masks, many people in the crowd opted not to wear them, prompting concerns over the possibility of the coronavirus spreading.

Here’s an exchange that happened between CNN’s Alisyn Camerota and Trump campaign national press secretary Hogan Gidley on the same day that the United States reported its highest seven-day rolling average of cases since the start of the coronavirus pandemic:

Camerota : Well, let’s talk about acting responsibly. I mean, just again with Wisconsin, are you at all concerned given that there has been an outbreak in the vice president’s orbit of people around him and that there is currently an outbreak – I mean, hospitals in Wisconsin are near capacity. And so is there – does that give you any pause or the vice president any pause about going there and holding a big rally?

Gidley : No, it doesn’t. The vice president has the best doctors in the world around him, they’ve obviously contact-traced and have come to the conclusion it’s fine for him to be out on the campaign trail.

Uh, that was not the question, dude.

Camerota wasn’t only asking Gidley if it was safe for Vice President Mike Pence to hold a rally at the Central Wisconsin airport on Wednesday afternoon. She was asking him whether it was safe for the thousands of attendees, given Wisconsin’s emergence as a hotspot for the virus.

That Gidley sought first and foremost to reassure Camerota that “the vice president has the best doctors in the world around him” speaks to how selfishly the Trump administration views this virus. And how tone-deaf their response continues to be.
