The Trump Administration: A Clusterfuck in the Making Part Deux (Part 1)

I don’t necessarily want to see him in prison; drowning in legal fees and going bankrupt would be enough for him.

Problem is, a lot of people can survive bankruptcy - in fact this is probably one reason he moved to Florida, which has unique laws that can prevent asset seizures in some cases. I think Trump has figured out ways to perpetually live in debt, just as long as he has cash flow.

Well, regardless of whether we want to see him in prison or not, and how likely that would be in reality, I was actually wondering how Secret Service protection would work in that situation. Say trump did shoot someone on Fifth Avenue. My guess is that, due to the unique situation of being a former president, his incarceration would be some form of house arrest, and his Secret Service detail may act as protectors and jailors.

Because, as big an asshole as this guy is, when he’s acting in his role as a political appointee and a government employee, making general political statements to no-one in particular, he’s not practicing medicine, and therefore does not fall under the jurisdiction of a medical board.

He’s not making political statements; he’s acting in the capacity of a public health official. It would be like Dr Fauci saying don’t wear masks, and if someone asks you to wear one in a store, resist and continue shopping anyway. That’s malpractice, not a political opinion. He’s entitled to his political opinions, however nutty they are - in the classroom as a professor, in a panel discussion, or at home on social media when his name isn’t associated with public office. But not as he’s been doing.

To be guilty of malpractice, you have to be actually practicing medicine. He’s not doing that when he makes a speech urging people to “rise up” against public health measures. It’s precisely because he’s making general statements, to no-one in particular, outside the context of a medical consultation, in his role as a political appointee, that he is not practicing medicine. He’s just being a douchebag.

If I click on the time stamp, it’s now indicating that it’s Post #6558.

People! You’ve probably figured out by now that the post-numbering system on the new board is not as straightforward as it was on the old board. Suggest everyone refrain from referring to posts by number. :face_with_monocle:

I’ve been following this thread and its predecessor since the day the first thread was created by @ThelmaLou back in December 2016.

I’m going to be in withdrawal not just here on the SDMB, but watching MSNBC as well. For the last four years, we’ve watched it more than any other station. My wife jokes that she keeps it on throughout the night so she knows if the world is ending.

There will always be SRIotD variants. There is a vast horde of stupid Rs to entertain us. Just be careful not to turn into a zomgie.

Re post numbers: Has no one figured out yet that the post number shown on the scrollbar refers to the topmost post at the very top of the window? But yes, clicking on the timestamp is the easiest way to unmistakably see the post #.

It’s true that Discourse may behave strangely if you’ve left a busy thread open and many new posts have been added. That happened to me recently when the election follow-along thread was extremely busy and I left it open for a while. When I started to scroll, Discourse went nuts trying to catch up, and at one point I got a “You have been logged out” popup message! In fact, I wasn’t logged out, and things settled down in a few seconds.

Have you not figured out that the issue most discussed so far is that the scrollbar refers to a straight count of the current number of posts in the thread and ignores posts that may have been deleted. Currently for instance for me the scroll bar shows that there are 6578 posts in the thread, but clicking on yours, the current last post, show that it is considered to be post 6589.

Something seems screwy with the scroll bar, though. If I click on the time stamp of your post, it indicates that it is Post #6589.

However, the scroll bar indicates that it is post #6578/6578.

P.S. So long as the post # from the time stamp doesn’t change, it seems like that’s the way to go.

Heck, Obama served twice as long, hence Trump’s security budget should be half as much.

When I was younger I’d wonder what it would be like to have been born in the UK around 1900. You’d be old enough – maybe – to remember Victoria, certainly Edward and the British empire at its height in 1913, then little by little watch it all slip away.

I think I’m going to find out.

Yes, apologies for my misunderstanding – the number in the scrollbar is not reliable if you want to reference a post by number. The number in the scrollbar is potentially different than the real post number in the URL in the address bar, which matches the post number you get by clicking on the timestamp. Definitely a confusing unintended “feature” – i.e.- a bug. I suppose the best way around it when referencing a post is to supply a direct link.

Just when you think Rudy has finally reached Peak Assclown, he goes below and beyond:

However, it turns out that – oopsie! – his membership in the DC Bar has been suspended for non-payment of dues.

Okay, I figured it out. If a poster on my ignore list has a post in a thread, the software deletes their posts from the scroll bar number (apparently on the assumption that if I can’t see it, I don’t need to know that it exists).

Definitely fodder for a different thread entirely, and I will stop talking about it here.

Just that? Not for being an awful human being?
