I was wondering this very thing and was thinking about starting a thread on this subject.
Most modern Presidents will get something named in their honor, be it a library, government building, highway, airport, military vessel, etc…
I know Trump names plenty of things for himself, and Israel seems to love him (thanks to moving our embassy to Jerusalem) and has named a few things for him, but will he have have his name attached to anything in the US?
Normally the naming comes because a politician has been in office long enough to benefit their home state with funding for various projects. In Trump’s case New York hates him so there’s a 0% chance of anything being named for him there. Florida doesn’t seem too fond of him either. He’s never stepped foot in a library so take that off the table. Most Generals resent the idea that Trump “knows more than any of them” despite never serving in the military so I’d say most military bases are off the table. I’d be shocked if any vessels were named for him with the possible exception of a laundry ship.
I know I’m biased, but I truly think once Trump is out of office and no longer has the clout to freely trump himself up in the news that the rest of the country will want to put him behind us for good. I’d be ok with naming a good dumpster fire after him though, he deserves that honor.
- Donald J. Trump State Park, in New York state, located on land donated by Trump in 2006.
- Trump Drive – Kalispell, Montana[22]
- Donald J Trump Boulevard – Kamëz, Albania[23]
- United States Square in honor of President Donald Trump (a.k.a. Donald Trump Square) – Jerusalem, Israel. A town square in the city surrounding the new U.S. embassy. Named in honor of Trump for his administration’s recognizing of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.[24]
- Donald Trump Square – Petah Tikva, Israel[25]
- Trump Heights – Golan Heights, a planned Israeli settlement in the Israeli-occupied territories, named in honor of Trump’s recognition of the territory disputed with Syria as part of Israel.
Yeah, most of those are Israel. Donald Trump State Park makes sense since he donated the land. Time will tell, but thanks for making me aware of the wiki page. It will be interesting to see what happens. One thing is for certain, as much as I hate and loath him, there are plenty of others who adore him and will try to shower him with accolades. The question is, how long can that adoration really last?
Or how long before he’s caught on a hot mic whinging about how all these places named for him are in shithole small towns in flyover country and not in Manhattan.
Donated the land.
He purchased the land for 2 million and when he was unable to get permission to develop it, he donated it, claimed it was worth 100 million and took a tax write-off for that amount.
It apparently hasn’t been maintained in 10 years or so and has pretty much fallen into disrepair.
If those numbers are true, how did it it get by the IRS? I’d think that when someone claims a $100 million deduction, someone would look into it.
The audit will be done in two weeks.
“I can’t release any information while it is under audit”
Rinse and repeat for a decade.
He bought at $2.75M, the county appraised it at $5.5M, and he apparently took a deduction of $26.1M for it (link to Time article)
With any luck all this sort of crap will eventually catch up to him.
I took the numbers I used, included the 100 mil, from the Wikipedia article linked to upthread and didn’t check them beyond that. My bad.
If I donated something appraised at $550, and then took a deduction of $2,610 for it on my taxes, I would be fined and also paying this back by the following tax year. If I’m lucky, I would not have criminal charges filed.
These sorts of shenanigans are exactly why New York prosecutors will be knocking on his door the last week of January.
It’s 'cause your not speshul.
“Let me tell you about the very rich. They are different from you and me. They possess and enjoy early, and it does something to them, makes them soft where we are hard, and cynical where we are trustful, in a way that, unless you were born rich, it is very difficult to understand. They think, deep in their hearts, that they are better than we are because we had to discover the compensations and refuges of life for ourselves. Even when they enter deep into our world or sink below us, they still think that they are better than we are. They are different.” ― F. Scott Fitzgerald
Would the state of Florida hold and deliver Trump to the NY authorities? I asked about this last year in GQ and not sure any of the answers provided would be relevant given the insanity of the times.
The question was also discussed much more recently (like, last week) with respect to Trump specifically, in another thread, and in some posts in other Trumpish threads too. I just searched for the words “Florida extradite Trump New York” to find some of them.
Maybe not, but New Jersey damn sure would, so next time he goes to Bedminster…Virginia might too. He’s gonna be real limited in his golf game if they do.
Thanks. I think I need to go to IMHO more often.
