The Trump Administration: A Clusterfuck in the Making Part Deux (Part 1)

Here, lemme touch that up a little – the brownshirt is just too plain …

If that’s true, no reason for Donnie to care. It’s Biden’s problem then.

digs, I think you’ve found a new career for Melania, post-divorce: she can be the new ‘trashy paperback/DVD cover-art’ queen for the sub-genre Fascist Fantasies!

wolfpup: that DOES look a lot more natural.

And not one single elected Republican will have even a particle of difficulty in blaming Biden for “his” screw-up.

I remember a review from back in the day: ‘Two hours of castration.’

Thank you for this!

Exactly so. From what I’ve read, this maneuver is called a “pocket veto” – as Wikipedia describes it, in the case of how the U.S. system works:

And as mentioned in the threat I started about what the bill had in it, the only reason that it’s within pocket veto territory is that it took two days for it to get printed and presented to the President after it was passed on Monday. If it was presented to the President on Monday, then there would have just barely been enough time left in Congress’s term to prevent the pocket veto.

The new Congress will need to pass the bill again when it restarts. If they do so quickly enough, it might still become law during the Trump Administration. I can’t imagine there is going to be a large enough change of personnel in Congress to prevent the same overwhelming majority from passing it. Surely all the necessary runs through committee and such will be expedited as much as possible. The only problem would be if one side decides they want to hold out for something different.

Yep. That will be the GOP plan. Blame Biden for this bill not passing in 2020.

Also, Blame Biden for the massive fuckup in the response to Covid-19 this year, the deficit, the unemployment rate, and also 9/11.

I imagine the GOP will start bitching about Biden playing too much golf as well, even if he never goes to a course for the next 4 years.

Oh, yes, and tell everyone that Biden is taking your guns away, while you’re in a lineup at the gun store to buy more guns.

There will be a picture of Biden playing fetch with his dogs on the White House lawn, with a caption “Biden plays with dogs while the country crumbles.”

Oooh! That would be great. They’ve got their own copy of the bill right?
Pelosi: Hey, House, remember that bill we passed last month. Any objections to sending it over again?
House as a committee of the whole: Hell no!
Pelosi: Hey Mitch!* Here it comes again!
McConnell: We’re on it.

They could do it in an afternoon.

*Or Chuck if the Senate flips on the 5th. :pray:t4:

Except the political calculus has changed. Trump is calling out the Republicans who voted for the bill for not making the checks $2,000.

Will the Republicans vote for the increase in the checks, because they’re afraid to have the Trumper call them out by name on his twitter to all his supporters?

Or, will they vote for the bill and $600 cheques, and incur the Orange Wrath?

And if exactly the same bill lands on the golf course where the Trumper is carrying out his executive duties, will he give assent, or will he veto it?

Let’s also bear in mind that it’s a lousy, overloaded, problematic bill. Not saying he should have vetoed it, or that the relief portion was good, but it looks bad from a lot of angles.

Trump doesn’t care two cents about the $2000 (in fact he’s probably enjoying the way he made sure no one would get even the initial $600).

All he cares about is Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act–he wants it repealed, so that if someone is mean to him on Twitter or Facebook, Twitter or Facebook can be sued out of existence. (In other words, Trump wants all social media to delete any content that criticizes him out of fear of being sued.)

It’s true that a lot of major GOP donors care most about a return of the dropped ‘corporate liability shield’ provision that would permit them to treat their workers as fully disposable. Amazon made you work in close quarters with coughing sneezing COVID-19-positive co-workers, with no masks? And you got sick? Too bad, you can’t sue!

Trump would enjoy the human misery that making worker-safety a thing of the past would cause…but he doesn’t care deeply about it. He does care deeply about making sure no one can laugh at him on the Internet.

Trump apparently just said that he will sign the bill as is.

I won’t believe it until the until the Sharpie hits the paper.

Breaking news from NewsNation: the bill is signed! This is the original $600 relief bill but Pelosi reportedly will introduce legislation for $2000 checks tomorrow.

Yeah, good luck getting that past Mitch.

He also signed the military funding bill.
