I think it doesn’t happen but not because it’s stupid.
It doesn’t happen because Trump doesn’t want to be stuck with shitty “low-class” loser states. He wants the respect and adulation of states like New York and California, all the while insulting them.
To those from whom he craves attention, he acts like he does towards women. He grabs them by the pu…acts like an adolescent and negs them.
I would not be at all surprised if Trump decamped to the Mar-a-largo Winter White House, claiming he was the rightful President and that he had been overthrown in a banana republic election.
This is not that surprising.
What I think might happen that we never imagined, is that the RNC will get behind him and a double digit number of congressmen, along with Josh Hawley and Ted Cruz, will follow.
Which will put the rest of the Republicans, like Lindsey and Mitch, in a situation so ridiculously humiliating they can never live it down.
But this might be wishful thinking on my part.
ETA- I think we did suffer from a completely understandable failure of imagination. I mean NO ONE guessed “Trump musters an army of brainwashed zombies on the White House lawn and sends them to declare war on Congress”. If I had, you would’ve called me crazy.
I have said before that any non-rational action by Trump is on the table and I would believe almost any idea that Trump supposedly had. I do expect the people around him to be more sane (although in the case of Powell, et. al. it’s barely).
A couple of stories that may have been posted before, but well worth a quick read:
I like the way the above was written up (bolding mine):
“If you read my speech, and many people have done it, and I’ve seen it both in the papers and in the media, on television, it’s been analyzed, and people thought that what I said was totally appropriate,” Trump claimed, citing nobody in particular.
… Trump in his speech had urged supporters in Washington to “walk down to the Capitol” where Congress was meeting to affirm President-elect Joe Biden’s victory, and he called on them to “show strength” because “you’ll never take back our country with weakness.” The subsequent pro-Trump riot at the Capitol left five people dead, and on Monday, House Democrats introduced an article of impeachment charging Trump with inciting an insurrection …
And in other news, companies he’s been depending on, including Deutche Bank, are refusing to do further business with him. This is the kind of thing I was hoping would happen – that Trump, having been unexpectedly elected to a job that he was totally unqualified for, would make such a total hash of it and expose himself as the vile criminal that he is, that it would destroy his shady private businesses in its aftermath.
I was the one who originally brought up the idea of Trump not being allowed to travel, but I wasn’t thinking so much about the US Do Not Fly list as other countries barring him from entry.
It will be interesting to see how many countries that Trump does business with put him on a similar list. Obviously the optics of blocking a former US President from most countries would be damning, but Trump is nothing if not unique.
I would not be surprised at all to find that Trump did mix these two places up. In fact, I’d be shocked if he knew the difference, and expect him to make reference to “Remember the Alamo”. I hope someone points out that San Antonio is some distance away, and he’s a moron.
