This was the news that House members, and/or their staff members, had been giving “tours” to unknown persons in recent days—this though there have been NO tours given in the Capitol for months, due to COVID-19.

That’s kind of garbled. He gets an annual allowance of up to $1 million for himself and up to two aides, and a half million for his wife. But it’s only for travel related to his former capacity as president, not for leisure travel - maybe due to service on some international committee or as an unofficial ambassador. And most former presidents have used very little of the fund. Of course, you can be sure that Trump would use it for all it’s worth.

The idea that any organization anywhere in the world would ever want to be officially associated with Trump in his ex-POTUS capacity sounds far-fetched to me.
In his capacity as a superb dealmaker, Trump may be able to scrounge an income by getting countries and organizations to pay him to stay away. Although he won’t get much leverage out of that if he’s in jail and not really free to travel anyway.
Does anyone know which piece of art this is? There are people obsessed by every thing there is. SOMEONE must know about the art displayed in the White House (even though I understand there’s a vast reservoir outside the WH to supplement it. But if it spent any time there, some WH-obsessed Geek will know the details)
Here it is – it’s a pretty famous piece, by sculptor Gutzon Borglum (the guy who gave us Mt. Rushmore, and also that symbol of the Confederacy, Stone Mountain)
Apparently they have no word about who took it or where it is – although they ought to be easy to find.
I hope it does get returned to the museum. But moving it out with the Trump’s private effects doesn’t have a good vibe.

Is this going to be one of those things like Capone doing down for tax evasion? Trump gets away with outrageous corruption, kills hundreds of thousand of Americans by failing to respond to a pandemic, attacks the Capitol in a ham-fisted coup attempt - but goes down because it turns out he ordered someone to steal a bust of Lincoln from the White House? The penalties for stealing government property become quite severe as the value of the property increases. This must surely be government property?
We’ll probably find out it was just being moved for safe keeping prior to the cleaning, but knowing Trump you wouldn’t put it past him.
