I suspect part of the reason for focusing on the attack is that it was also aimed at Republicans. They might not care about votes in Georgia that don’t affect them, but there might be enough Congressional Republicans angry or frightened about the fact that Trump sent his mob to murder them as well to pick up enough votes for impeachment. It’s a long shot but it’s the best shot they have.
It would have been even better if they could have gotten Trump to testify, though. Instant perjury charges a-go-go.
After seeing more of the footage and information from the trial in the Senate, I think there really, REALLY needs to be an in-depth investigation into why there was such a light police presence at the Capitol Building on January 6.
Officials KNEW that violent, armed scum were going to be present at Trump’s rally.
Officials KNEW that the violent mob were planning attacks
Officials KNEW that Trump was intent on whipping this mob up with his lies, and attacks on Pence et al.
Officials KNEW that member of this mob had been involved in violent attacks in the past
Officials KNEW that Trump had encouraged violent behavior in the past
Yet they did not reinforce the Capitol Building. And it seems that any reinforcements were not able to be deployed quickly.
WHO gave orders to leave the Capitol Building vulnerable? WHO blocked and/or delayed reinforcements?
He needs to be brought in for questioning, investigated and charged if it can be shown he committed a crime. He can be just another in a long line of people who go to jail for Trump.
There will be enough yet undiscovered crime coming to light to keep the parade going. Better to start strong. If you are getting out of the boat, go all the way.
Good Friday, yeah, was the three hour silence thing. IIRC, we also had GF off school, so it was kinda/sorta a day off “work.” Ash Wednesday wasn’t a day off. We just went to church first thing (I can’t remember if there was actually a mass), and all we school kids got our ashes.
Does anyone remember the fish bone saint day? Where the priest would place crossed, blessed candles against your throat and bless you? I have a vague memory of it being a February date.
Another legend about St. Blaise is that he saved an old woman’s pig from a wolf. When St. Blaise was in prison, the woman brought him food and candles to light his cell.
I think you meant St. Blaise’s Feast Day is Feb 3 (or Feb 11 if you’re Eastern or Greek Orthodox), the day after Groundhog Day (Feb 2). Now that I think of it – we definitely had the mass with the blessing of the throats and all that. How did that particular saint get singled out for a mass with a somewhat theatrical rite? I just don’t really remember any other saints having a particularly memorable mass. I mean, we celebrated St. Patrick’s Day and I guess St. Valentine’s Day in our own secular ways, but no special mass for it.
Yes, I meant February 3. As far as I can recall, he was the only Saint that had a special little ceremony like that. I went to parochial school, and in grammar school they would march us over to the church next door on St. Blaise’s day. We would kneel at the altar rail and they would hold crossed candles to our throats.
Of all the ailments we could have been protected from, I wouldn’t have put choking on a fish bone in the top 20.
Come to think of it, it may not have been a mass, just a ceremony/blessing. Maybe with the uptake in fish consumption during Lenten Fridays coming, they decided to take precaution.
Yeah, if I’d been in school with you, I’d’ve thought “Ok, so I believe in God and I get…protection from swallowing a fish bone? I’m tempted to take my chances…”
