The Trump Administration: A Clusterfuck in the Making Part Deux (Part 1)

He as much as said that in the article I cited above:

Another case of Trump saying the quiet part out loud – he probably wasn’t supposed to explicitly note that the cities getting Stormtrooper support all happened to have Democratic mayors.

IMHO, he doesn’t literally want a civil war. He just wants to make sure that there’s enough conflict going on between Democrat Anarchists vs the Forces of Law and Order that he can run on another “only I can fix it” campaign. If everything’s quiet between now and November he’s got nuttin’.

And of course he (and many of his idiot supporters) totally miss the irony that before he got elected, we hadn’t seen this level of widespread and prolonged protest, violent or not, in decades.

He’s saying that he’s the only one who can fix the mess he himself made. And doing it with a straight(ish) face.

There should probably be a picture of Trump next to the word ‘chutzpah’ in the dictionary.

I wonder how pissed off Stephen Miller was at seeing all those awesome, heroic moms in Portland standing in line to protect the protesters from the Orangeshirts (who yeah I know are in black - they should’ve all been wearing orange coveralls instead.)
A pony wish, but hoping that as many people as possible (and as non-violently as possible - bit of an ask, I realise, with federal goons present) take to the streets of any of the cities that are gonna have to deal with more Orangeshirt deployments. Ending up with near-empty streets monitored by these goons is probably not the plan for any American city, so it’ll be just a matter of time before this fasicist, paramilitary chicanery will, without question, peter out.

Ha, pulling this shit in NYC? New Yawkers?
That would be full-on fucking war, and I’d dare Don to go there.

Good thing neither Trump nor McConnell have anything to do with how states conduct their elections or count votes, then.

Michael Cohen is suing Bill Barr, claiming he was re-arrested to prevent him from writing his anti-Trump book.

Well, that probably cuts both ways. OTOH (On The One Hand), he was after all re-arrested for violating his release conditions. OTOH (On The Other Hand) I don’t doubt that he might have been re-arrested to prevent him from writing an anti-Trump book.

ETA: I find it hard to imagine his case will get much traction, either in the popular press or in the courts.

Don’t kid yourself: he will absolutely go there. He’s already going to Chicago.

I suspect that over time, the strategy might be to visit places like Cleveland, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Miami, Phoenix, and Atlanta. You know, just to make sure that the wrong people aren’t voting.

Casablanca, updated:

Trump: Are you one of those people who cannot imagine federal troops in their beloved Portland?

Rick Blaine: It’s not particularly my beloved Portland.

DHS Secretary Wolf: Can you imagine us in Chicago?

Rick: When you get there, ask me.

Trump: How about New York?

Rick: Well, there are certain sections of New York, Mr. President, that I wouldn’t advise you to try to invade.

My bold.
Meh, if there ever was a time where I could pick only one example where I’d put money on “yeah, Russian bots”, this would be that time.
Those fuckers in that St. Petersbuirg building would be drooling/fighting over posting about US chaotic civil strife of this nature, something they might be a bit more familiar with than folks over here.

True. Trump “not accepting” the election results is not particularly definitive. He can bang his tiny fists and shout “Fraud!” and demand recounts, though…so it all depends on how much clout the RNC has with state ballot counting.

What would happen if all the protests (in Portland, say) moved their locale so that it’s a mile from the nearest Federal building? Would the jack-booted federal thugs have any jurisdiction? Or would they be standing in front of an ignored federal courthouse, twiddling their thumbs?

Hmmm… I wonder what property he’s hoping to acquire cheap by degrading the local real estate market.

It would be irresponsible not to speculate…

I don’t think the ballot counting will be messed with. That is heavily controlled and has observers from both sides checking the results. The place where the dirty tricks comes into play is ballot access. If he can arrange it so that urban dwellers, and those who have a rational fear of the Corona virus, have a much harder time voting than those in rural districts or believe its a Democrat hoax, he could easily win even if the overall electorate prefers Biden by double digits.

This is why he hates mail in ballots so much. Hes counting on crowds at urban polling centers keeping away Democrats who care more about their health than getting their vote in. Meanwhile most swing states have Republican governors and/or legislatures that can help to make voting as dangerous as possible.

The ACLU is joining in on the Cohen lawsuit against Barr.

The subject of this thread had this to say about Portland

fantastic job

Ah, the sweet smell of democracy in the morning.

Coronavirus Briefing 2: Electric Boogaloo just started.

If in the “When will he blame China” pool you had “< 20 seconds” … congratulations.

I didn’t have “Wishes Ghislane Maxwell, accused rapist, well” on my Bingo card.

Wait, what?
