The Trump Administration: A Clusterfuck in the Making

So what’s that now? Almost $12 in the savings account mommy made for you. What a good boy. Yes you are!

…it probably needs its own pit thread, but what Australia has done to their asylum seekers is, IMHO, objectively much worse than anything Trump has done (yet). Widespread censorship. Coverups. Yes, families have been separated. Plenty have suffered and died. What successive governments have done is shameful. kambuckta most certainly knows what is going on down under and the comparison is on target.

I knew I should have had another cup of coffee

American democracy was destroyed the moment Trump and the Republicans took power. All hope for the future died at that moment.

Heck, all hope for the present died at that moment.

It absolutely is. No argument from me. And the worst thing about it, IMO, is that it has actually been effective in what it was meant to do (which is of course mostly ‘get politicians re-elected’, but some other stuff too)

Essentially, because ‘lock up refugees’ is bipartisan policy (the Labor govt of the '90s started it, though I don’t know if they really knew what they were getting themselves into) there’s no changing it. The only major-*ish *party that’s consistently against it is the Greens, and they never get more than 10% of the vote. People have been marching against this for twenty years … I’ve been on dozens myself, but I’ve kind of lost hope in the last couple of years because it really seems pointless. Nothing ever changes.

In Aus, all politicians seem to be in on this Faustian bargain - target White Australia anti-brown-people angst against ***these ***people, give the reactionaries someone to target their five-minute hate at, and in return they don’t riot over the general influx of migrants (which is one of the highest in the world).

It’s great that public pressure has forced Trump to do something about the child separation policies. But it only worked out this well because he’s an incompetent politician. If he were as smart as John Howard he’d have worked out to lead up to it gradually with a boiling frog trick, and you’d have kids in tents for decades

He’s high right now, he did a rally in Duluth, and they turned out to slather him with adulation. That sort of shit is his heroin and nepenthe cocktail, America is totally behind him, loves him. And once they realize that it was Hillary separating all those kids…

…meanwhile, down in New Zealand, our Prime Minister has just taken six weeks off to have a baby. And its just been born. And its a girl!!! Such pleasant news to divert me from the Bonkers States of America.

Did they ever find out which cowardly parliamentarian called her a “stupid little girl” and then refused to identify themselves?

He’s got another couple of years, can Trump manage to retroactively destroy hope in the past?

Donald Trump wants credit for ending a crisis he created. (My emphasis)

There’s a name for this disorder (although it usually applies to parent/caregiver and the cared-for, I think it fits here):

A better apartment? <scratches head> Anyway, we’ve already had proof that you don’t need to be smart to be elected President. He’s just the confirmation of that.

Not to mention that if you were invested in the stock market during Obama’s terms and you weren’t making money hand over fist, you may have been the stupidest investor of all time.

Probably because his checkered past counts as prime qualifications for RNC fundraising.

There are those who think Obama destroyed the economy, and the stock market is only now beginning to recover from its heavy losses during his term (when the Dow tripled, btw).

Yes, there are people naive enough to believe Fox/Breitbart/etc. nonsense like that, and our new friend appears to be one of them. Don’t expect him to last long, though, not after he finds he’s being paid in rubles.

Yeah, you know, that white dump which didn’t use to have enough gilded toilets.

What can you expect from public housing?

But you don’t know the time frame for his 0.76% return - if weekly, that looks to be 48% annual, and even monthly it’s 9%. One hopes he isn’t reporting a daily increase . . .

Not that he’s not an idiot, of course.

And how do you possibly define “elite” in a way that doesn’t include Trump?
