Gorsuch will become a Supreme Court Justice, and will exacerbate the pro-corporation slant of the court for the next 40 years or more. If Ginsburg dies or retires in the next three years, which seems likely, then Trump gets another pick (and if the Republicans still control the Senate, you can be sure that they will develop amnesia about their steadfast belief that for the purposes of appointing a Justice, Presidential terms last less than three years). Between Trump’s and W’s abysmal appointments, we’ll have decades of an ultra-conservative court.

If you’re a Trumpist and he suddenly proposes to hurt you, you aren’t going to give up on him THIS fast. Trumpists are deeply, deeply emotionally invested in him; that’s how he got sixty million people to vote for the him. Emotions aren’t changed this quickly, not in a couple of months. Your first reaction to him stiffing you is going to be “this is bad, but, he’s my guy, he’ll change his mind or something.”
For the voters to turn away from their preferred candidate will take much longer than this, like a couple of years, and they’ll have to be actually, materially damaged by him, not just “this would theoretically hurt me but it hasn’t actually happened yet.”

Trump was always going to cut that unspecified government waste being paid out to those unspecified lazy scroungers living off benefits, never the actual programs involving actual poor people and certainly never the ones that affect actual Republicans even though poor Republicans are the main recipients of government support.
One of the other people in the article says that the problem isn’t Trump, it’s the budget which is cutting the wrong things. Mistakes were made, cuts happened, nothing to do with Trump or the Republicans at all.
But maybe they could cut those Obamaphones, as one interviewee suggested. Which aren’t funded via the budget at all.
