This is the “logic” of dumping refugees/immigrants/whatnot in Democratic centers:
all refugees are violent criminals, so crime will rise, and the Dems will be sorry! (not true, so a pointless reason)
Democrats love non-citizens voting, so let’s send them more (that doesn’t even make sense in a MAGA way. If Dems used non-citizens to vote, then having more of them is a good thing, innit?)
The Individual 1 apologists (including Individual 1 himself (https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1116696849853886465)) are all shouting with joy that former Obama aide Gregory Craig has been indicted for his work with Paul Manafort in representing Ukraine without registering as a foreign agent. Kellyanne tweeted, “BREAKING NEWS! FINALLY! WHITE HOUSE OFFICIAL INDICTED in connection with MUELLER investigation!”
Twitter is replying that she seems to have forgotten that Michael Flynn worked in the White House, and that Craig had not been in the White House for seven years before his actions that led to his indictment.
Also, I’m not super politically saavy, but “look at this scumbag, he was so shady he worked with Trump’s campaign manager!” doesn’t seem like a good line.
What’s missing from the tweet is what is undoubtedly the reverse side of that “offer”: if he disobeys the president, the president will turn up the heat on him and push him out. This is the very real, very dangerous pattern that we are witnessing in this administration: the government is becoming a tool, a symbol of Trump’s authoritarian power. He’s doing what authoritarians do: replacing competent civil servants who administer according to procedure and replacing them with toadies who administer to demonstrate their loyalty to the president.
This also underscores the danger that has been lurking within the framework of the Constitution all along, particularly in modern times when, as a result of the Cold War, congress delegated a lot of its administrative powers to the president and relaxed its oversight. The president can ignore congress and ignore courts, and they can’t necessarily do anything to make him stop ignoring them.
This is undeniably an impeachable offence. Already Republicans are scrambling to unite over the “he was only joking” narrative.
Of course no one is fooled. Trump doesn’t “joke.” He meant it. But if he meant it, then he can be impeached—and GOP Senators will have trouble defending their inevitable votes to protect, rather than convict him.
If they actually do have family in Detroit and that family is willing to take them in, sure - why wouldn’t that be done?
Up until now, someone getting asylum would NOT be “kept in a cage”, they’d be sent somewhere to live until, preferably with some social support that can help them. Groups might be settled in clusters - the Lost Boys of Sudan, for example, were set to 38 cities in the US and set up in apartments in groups rather than families, as so many had lost all contact with their families. More on the Lost Boys (and Girls) of the Sudan in the US here, including rates of things like PTSD among them. Here is information on the Hmong in the US, another significant group of refugees that, again, were settles in a number of cities.
And, of course, there are also individual asylum seekers and refugees as well.
It is an impeachable offense, which makes it unfortunate that it’s sourced to anonymous sources.
If it’s true, then you need to report it to the authorities. If you don’t, and you don’t even provide a way to be found, then it’s as good as not having done anything at all.
I think it was something about how we’re any second now going to have to go to literal war to salvage the country, shooting politicians and cops and the like.
I could be one of those people who’s pre-understanding, though.
