Kentucky Republican Asks for Vote Recanvass As Democrats Claim Mandate

Gov. Matt Bevin of Kentucky, the Republican seeking re-election, formally asked state officials to undertake a check and recanvass of the voting machines and absentee ballots in the race, citing “irregularities” without providing details. The Democratic candidate, Andy Beshear, has claimed victory with a lead of about 5,100 votes, or about 0.4 percent of ballots cast.

In that case, it would be up to a vote of the House and Senate to decide the winner. And in both chambers, Republicans have a majority…

Stivers seems prepared to argue that Bevin is the real winner because 2% of the vote went to the Libertarian candidate. And if there had been no Libertarian candidate, “most of those votes … would have gone to Bevin.”…

Republicans… could just steal the Libertarian votes, give them to Bevin, declare him the winner, and call it a day. And when they’re done, Trump will probably give them a tweet of congratulations.

I can argue that point. It’s like saying that the reason he shouldn’t be punished for the crimes he knowingly did is because he’s not competent enough to have committed the crimes which he knowingly did.

And I say it’s like that, because it’s exactly that.

It’s not a plea of ignorance. It’s a plea of “please pretend it didn’t happen, because we’re appealing to your low opinion of him”.
