The Dow or his daily tweet count?
There you go insulting dead kitties again, cause everyone knows the dead kitty’s bounce is higher.
Morbid* observation:
According to numbers published in JAMA yesterday, mortality rates for Covid 19 are strongly correlated with age. Zero deaths among those under 10, so far. Rates similar to the flu amongst those aged 10-50. Decent jump from 50-60. And stratospheric rise above ages 60, 70, and 80.
That’s Trump’s base. Their retirement accounts are tanked, but their $ might last long enough if coronavirus becomes epidemic in the US.
Not that I or any sane person wants that, but DJT may have bumbled into a way to literally decimate his base.
*Heh.
Do you have a cite for those statistics? There are people I’d love to send this information to.
Most of that data is based on what happened in Wuhan, and I would trust that data a bit.
We’re still learning about the virus and its mortality rate, and we won’t really have valid data until it establishes itself in a population with a health system that isn’t influenced by the strong arm of a government that puts political considerations over public health. In all likelihood, some of the deaths in China have been miscategorized.
Looks like the dead kitty has bounced (crossed through 25k) nine times so far today. So far.
You can’t dribble a dead kitty!
Trumps best minds are on it!
They really are, guys! Have faith!
Did you hear the latest?
Trump administration calls for tax cuts to fight Coronavirus damage.
THANK GOD!
Republicans have never seen a problem that couldn’t be solved by tax cuts.
Aye; they have argued, repeatedly, that cutting taxes increases tax revenue.
You have to wonder. Barry Sanders retired in 1998. And Garth Brooks just happened to pick 2020 as the year he wanted to post pictures of himself wearing a Sanders jersey?
No, I don’t have to wonder. Brooks was in Detroit and said why he was wearing the jersey before the tweet barrage started. Anything else is just trying to force controversy.
And Brooks and Sanders (Barry) both went to Oklahoma State as scholarship athletes (Brooks threw javelin, apparently).
So it is possible Garth was trolling, but if so he certainly gave himself a lot of plausible deniability.
That’s what his mom told the admissions director as she passed him a stack of bills.
From the Chinese center for disease control, as reported on the JAMA Network yesterday: The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Outbreak in China—Summary of a China CDC Report
And yes, those numbers only encompass China, but most other countries haven’t had large enough outbreaks to draw significant conclusions from.
An appeals court dismissed a lawsuit brought by the House Judiciary Committee against Don McGahn, ruling that Congress cannot sue to enforce its subpoenas.
Barring a SCOTUS rescue or a constitutional amendment, the concept of legislative oversight is dead. Welcome to the dictatorship; we can only hope it’s a benevolent one.
the only solution to authoritarianism, is counter-authoritarianism. I know people blew me off when I said it was “dictator time,” but now I think people might be beginning to understand.
When one side declares that they don’t need to follow the constitution, when one side declares that the rules only applies to their opponents, then the rule of law and the constitution is dead. It’s strictly a power game at that point, and it’s all about brute force and which side can intimidate the other into submission.
This is where we’re at. And now that the minority is actually at the helm of power, and since they know that the constitute a minority and don’t represent the silent majority, they will use the levers of power in whatever way they can to maintain power. You can laugh me off and call me paranoid - don’t give a fuck. This is the human animal we’re talking about, and I understand the human brain like few people I know.
In other news… Trump is replacing Acting Partisan Toady Richard Grenell with Permanent Partisan Toady John Ratcliffe, as Director of National Intelligence.
You may recall that Ratcliffe was nominated last year, but the nomination was withdrawn because Ratcliffe was deemed too much of an unqualified hack even for Senate Republicans. This may mean that another one of those “lessons” that Trump learned from the impeachment is that he can nominate anybody he wants, and the Senate will roll over.
i think he’s overplayed his hand. We’ll see.
Time to start jailing people for contempt, then.
What other choice does the senate have, in the absence of evidence that their own power is in peril? Goddamn right they’ll confirm it.
Look, I don’t know why people think I’m being alarmist – this is fucking power we’re talking about here.. This is brute force politics.
Moderation, and even pure constrained passion cannot defeat this. When the constitution dies, there are no rules, and then it’s simply a contest to determine who can control the machinery of power, and who can eliminate whom fastest.
You all clearly do not understand this.
But you will.
