AFAICT, the person responsible had retired before the incident but somehow still had access to the twitter account.
Despite the twitter account being shut down, I am able to see all the tweets thanks to the indelible memory of the internet.
They’ve started an unofficial National Parks Service twitter account that everyone should follow!
They have 600K+ followers already.
There’s also a RogueNASA account doing a similar service.
Are these accounts supposedly created by actual employees, or just sympathizers?
Dunno about the NASA one but the Associated Press is on record as believing the National Park one is really from Park employees.

I love the fact that the term “resistance” seems to be gaining traction: the ‘RESIST’ banner hanging outside the White House today; the #resist hashtag in the Rogue NPS twitter feed; and a common sign during the Women’s March that showed a picture of Princess Leia and the caption “A woman’s place is in the resistance.”
We’re not exactly French partisans fighting Nazi occupation; but we may be able to keep it from coming to that.
If Pompeo and Mattis had any integrity, they would say that they cannot in good conscience follow the directives of their boss, and turn in their resignations.

And they’re trying to organize a “Scientists March” on Washington. The Womens March favored pink hats. What will the scientists go with? Jackets with elbow patches, or white coats?
I really really hope they get the march going and even it has a bigger turnout than the inauguration.

Forgive my ignorance of how American politics works, but I have heard many mentions of the “checks and balances” that are in place to prevent the truly awful things from happening, and some are falling back on that as their hope that they cling to.
So I’m wondering what these checks and balances are, who enforces them, and are they really going to help stop this mess if the GOP has so much power now?
