I’m interested. A few dozen hate crimes within the last year, reported in the media, that later were proven to be fakes. Proven to be fake means statement by law enforcement, with cites of course. (I.e., no Alex Jones style ramblings about such laughable contentions as Sandy Hook never happened.)

It’s not that they’re thinking that the horses are zebras. They’re trying to make people think that the “false flag” attacks are the horses. Don’t know if this is part of some “grander” strategy or just bull shit for bull shits sake.

Regarding your cite #2: I see nothing stating that anyone claimed it was a hate crime until the cops said it didn’t appear to be one. In order for it to be a false hate crime, someone would have to have said it was a hate crime, and then it would have to proven otherwise. If a member of that mosque said it was a hate crime, then been shown to have perpetrated the incident, it would fit the criteria.
I’m not saying you’re wrong; just that it wasn’t stated in the article, unless I missed it.
