The Trump Administration: A Clusterfuck in the Making

How about that physics professor, that Dr. Banner guy?

Makes about as much sense. You’ll have a bunch of terrified amateurs shooting at each other.

And sadly, on PBS Newshour yesterday, two nineteen-year-olds were interviewed about the shooting, and spoke out on favour of arming teachers, spewing some specious quibble about children being our most natural resource, to be protected. I felt Judy Woodruff’s pain, who looked, well, I won’t say crestfallen, but you could tell she was let down by them.

Boom - whole thing - sums it up for me, right there.

Shop class can teach how to make boobie traps.

Even if there are no tragedies, I predict schools will be evacuated and locked down every time Mrs. Grundy misplaces her gun. Then after a half day of lost classwork and frantic police activity, she’ll be like …Whoops, I forgot I took it out of my purse and put it in my desk drawer”.

I bet this scenario will happen a lot. And it will get very old very fast.

Or little brats keeping tabs on where teach keeps the gun, waiting for…who the hell knows what situation for that to escalate to.

Mmmmmm. Some sheet metal, a few leaf springs, and a welder. Bear traps for everybody!

A semi-serious proposal, based on Trump’s statement that the knowledge that some teachers may be armed would be a deterrent:

Every school in America posts a sign that says “Teachers on this campus may be armed.” And that’s it…no actual guns. So there’s a tiny possibility that a shooting may be deterred, at zero risk of mis-use or mishandling of firearms.

Which 1/3rd, I wonder.

  1. Most of these shooters figure they’ll end up dead at the end of the Big Day, either by way of cop or their own hand. How will knowing there’s people with guns on campus dissuade them from inflicting their terror and mayhem, if even for a few minutes less?

  2. How will watching their teacher blow a guy’s brains out be any less traumatic for kids?

  3. How do we know a teacher, under the pressure of an active shooter situation, won’t hit the wrong kid? Do we actually trust that a teacher will be a dead-eye with kids running and screaming all around? Are we gonna train snipers to be teachers now?

Arming teachers is a stupid overly-simplistic solution to a problem that only appeals to stupid and overly-simple people.

  1. When the cops show up looking for the shooter, how will they know if the man running down the hall with his Glock out is a teacher or a bad guy?

Proudly brought to you by the people who specialize in that sort of thing, eh.

That too.

again - the majority of school shooters - mass shooters in general - simply don’t care - they are there to inflict damage and go out in a blaze of glory.

While these types of signs may work to deter burglers and people that want to live till the next day - that same ‘logic’ does not apply here.

you know - it could be that the WH staff is just happy to have him, you know, out of the WH.

How would you like to be a black teacher with a gun in your hand when the cops get there?

The seemingly infinite capacity of my own mind to be boggled continues to, well… *boggle *my mind. How much longer until my head finally just explodes?

They know she lost, right? (Except she really won in actual votes, dontcha know.)

The teacher could calmly inform the police that he was licensed to carry the weapon and then comply with their instructions. He’d be fine! (Killing of Philando Castile - Wikipedia)

Florida’s legislature came up with the bright idea of requiring “In God We Trust” signs on every school campus. That’ll solve the problem.

How do we know the cops won’t come in, see a Good Guy With a Gun and blow them away without asking questions?
