President Donald Trump told reporters outside Air Force One on Wednesday, Aug. 12, that he “would love to run” for a third term, but ultimately conceded that “the law is very strong” about barring it.
The 80-year-old president has repeatedly proposed the idea of serving a third term , sometimes in jest, including on July 24 at the rescheduled White House Correspondents’ Dinner .
“I won three times now I’m going to do it again,” the president said sarcastically at the dinner as he placed a red “Trump 2028” hat on his head, the likes of which he has been selling for more than $50 .
It’s not sarcasm, nor is it any other kind of humor. Rip van Simple is not joking. He keeps bleating this nonsense because he is going to try to do it.

Donald Trump’s administration has insisted for months that the Kennedy Center stands to lose millions of dollars without his name on the building after losing several legal battles to rename the venue after himself.
On Thursday, the performing arts institution’s Trump-controlled board of trustees agreed to do just that.
The board voted, again, to close the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts for renovations as part of a plan announced by the president earlier this year, which was blocked by a federal judge and is tied up in ongoing litigation. That plan included putting Trump’s name on the white marble facade, in front of the name of the assassinated former president, by renaming the venue The Donald J. Trump and John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts.
But under the resolution approved by the board Thursday, Trump’s name will appear on the building to thank the president for the multi-million dollar renovations. An inscription will read “Restored and Renovated by President Donald J. Trump” — directly below the sign.
“This morning’s decision to close the Center and the surprise agenda item to put Donald Trump’s name back on the building was more of the same,” said Democratic Rep. Joyce Beatty, who is suing to stop the building’s closure and Trump-led renovations. “This latest development is a transparent effort to circumvent the Court’s ruling, and flies in the face of the statutes that Congress passed.”

Hold off on the barbecue for a minute, because a Florida-based company has just recalled nearly 30,000 pounds of beef.
Corte Argentino USA LLC, which has headquarters in Aventura, Florida, is recalling approximately 29,628 pounds of raw beef products that were imported from Argentina, but were not inspected in the United States. The problem was discovered during routine inspection, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), said when announcing the recall on August 7.
The meat in question was sent to distributors and retailers in Florida and Texas. To find out whether the meat you were planning on turning into burgers , roast beef , or barbecue is part of the recall, look for products that have the Argentinian establishment number “EST. N° OF. 2025” and shipping mark “26644-AA.” The products were all produced between May 15, 2026, and May 20, 2026, and have use or freeze-by dates between September 15, 2026, and September 20, 2026.

In recent days, government contractors have started to bulldoze sensitive areas of Texas’s scenic Big Bend National Park as part of the Trump administration’s $46.5 billion push to build a massive wall along the U.S.-Mexico border — a move that has triggered bipartisan opposition.
“I believe in border security 100%,” Terrell County Sheriff Thaddeus Cleveland, a Republican and former Border Patrol agent, told Fox San Antonio . “Believe in even installation of barriers where they’re needed. But I can tell you that specific area … even just what they’ve done, unnecessary.”
Last week, Republican Sen. John Cornyn of Texas sent a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin relaying his constituents’ concerns.
“My constituents believe that the 1,000-foot riverbank cliffs and remote Big Bend terrain offers its own source of deterrence for any illegal migrants crossing into the United States,” Cornyn wrote. “Many residents that live and work around the parks are also concerned that a physical wall, which would be accompanied by lighting systems, access roads, and maintenance corridors, would (1) ruin the beauty, landscape, and wildlife of the park, (2) threaten culturally significant Native American sites, (3) disrupt wildlife migration, (4) limit access to the Rio Grande River, and (5) significantly harm the local economy as tourism is a major economic driver for the region.”

According to RadarOnline , Leavitt considered leaving her role as White House press secretary while she was on maternity leave. The report cited sources who claimed President Donald Trump repeatedly contacted her and asked when she planned to return.
Leavitt, 28, welcomed her second child, Viviana, in May. She then took several weeks away from the White House to recover and spend time with her family. A source close to Leavitt told the Daily Mail that she was “strongly weighing” whether to quit during that period. The source also claimed Trump frequently asked when she would return.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Trump White House said in a new report on Thursday that countries are routing their exports through third countries to avoid U.S. tariffs , estimating that there are tax revenue losses of $19 billion to $26 billion annually.
The report specifically highlights that China responded to new tariffs in 2018 by sending their goods to other nations ranging from Mexico to Malaysia for packaging and limited assembly — a practice known as transshipping. That pattern made it look like U.S. imports from China had dropped , but enabled Beijing to continue growing its manufacturing sector in ways that could challenge U.S. factories and employment.
Peter Navarro , the White House trade adviser, told reporters on a conference call that China is laundering its exports through more than 40 countries, though he claimed that the issues raised in the report were really more about other nations enabling the avoidance of tariffs.
“For years, the great transshipment scam has let communist China launder its exports,” Navarro said.
The report comes ahead of a planned September visit by Chinese Leader Xi Jinping, who President Donald Trump described in flattering terms during his own visit to Beijing in May.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump is ordering the U.S. Navy to remove the advanced system used to launch fighter jets from its newest type of aircraft carrier and return to using older steam catapults that he has long said he prefers , according to a directive issued Thursday.
The new mandate would likely cost billions of dollars and revert the Navy’s most advanced ships to a system that takes more sailors to operate and is more difficult to maintain.
The memo directs the Pentagon and the Navy to present Trump with plans to remove the Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System, also known as EMALS, within two months. It also says the Ford-class carrier’s electromagnetic weapons elevators should be replaced.
The ships have been designed around the EMALS and that type of elevator. Changing it isn’t like swapping a Goodrich tire for a Goodyear tire.

Doesn’t Harvard also train lawyers? (The bolding is mine.)
U.S. District Judge Richard G. Stearns dismissed the Trump administration’s lawsuit against Harvard University over antisemitism, according to Thursday court filings.
The lawsuit, filed in March by the U.S. Justice Department, argued that the institution violated civil rights law by failing to address antisemitism on campus. The Trump administration aimed to freeze Harvard’s federal grants and seek repayment of funds already distributed.
In his ruling, Stearns said the Trump administration didn’t adequately prove that the university had violated civil rights law, claiming that the evidence provided was “too isolated and episodic.”
The government issued the notification of noncompliance on June 30, 2025, but almost all of the violations the Trump administration referenced in the complaint occurred in the 2023-2024 school year, with only three incidents occurring after the case was filed.
The judge concluded that the government couldn’t seek financial damages. He reassured the government that the ruling won’t create the “havoc” they had warned about.
“If comfort is needed, the court’s ruling does not have as broad an impact as the Government asserts,” Stearns said.
Spokespeople at Harvard and the U.S. Department of Justice didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
Harvard’s lawyers previously argued that the court should dismiss the case because the Trump administration has ignored Harvard’s own efforts to address antisemitism on campus.
The lawyers argued that the federal government hasn’t been able to prove that Harvard has continued to create a hostile environment for students or was deliberately indifferent toward Jewish or Israeli students.
**The university said the lawsuit repeats arguments from previous cases it has won.
“This litigation is a continuation of the Government’s ongoing campaign of retaliation against Harvard for refusing to capitulate to government demands and for exercising its First Amendment rights,” the Harvard lawyers said.**
