Maybe we should let folks buy their way out of serving?
Charge them, let’s say, $300 or whatever $300 was worth in 1863.
What could go wrong ?

Roughly $7700 in 2026 dollars.
Monty quoting Pro Publica via Yahoo News:
Several high-ranking federal election officials attended a summit last week at which prominent figures who worked to overturn Donald Trump’s loss in the 2020 election pressed the president to declare a national emergency to take over this year’s midterms.
It’s too bad these election officials didn’t present their evidence during the sixty-odd challenges Trump bought about the 2020 election results losing every one. I shall wait, with interest, to see what evidence they are bringing to the table now.
Seriously beginning to wonder if there will be anything left when this asshole finally leaves office. And here I thought climate change was going to be what finally did us in. Silly me.

I’m sure the typo, which I bolded in the quote, was unintentional, but it really does fit the felon’s view of how anything works.
“Oh, Dr. Freud, your slip is ready.”
I know I’m late replying to this, given all what’s happened since Thursday. It was the Citizenship in Society merit badge that had too much DEI in it. If they didn’t explicitly use those words it might have gone unnoticed, since it essentially talks about how the Scout Law includes being kind. That’s not manly enough, I guess.
There’s a popup on that site stating that the Citizenship in Society merit badge is no longer available after February 26 2026 (unless you’ve already started it, and complete it yet this year). It was an Eagle Scout required badge, along with Citizenship in the Nation, in the World, and in the Community. But now you don’t need the Society badge for Eagle.
I didn’t know they stacked shit that high.

I’m surprised Citizenship in the World survived the cut.
I almost feel sorry for that sack of shit stacked that high.
Almost.

“Hell hath no fury” is the best title for this story.
Former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) responded to alarming conjecture Sunday that President Donald Trump could cite a “national emergency” to cancel the upcoming midterm elections — which are expected to favor Democrats and possibly lead to a takeover of the House of Representatives.
Conservative podcaster Shannon Joy posted to X, “Trump doesn’t seem to care about the midterms. Who wants to bet he’ll declare a ‘national emergency’ because of Iran (or some other manufactured crisis) and try to cancel the elections in November?”
Greene, who had a huge falling out with the president and has repeatedly condemned his recent aggression against Iran responded to Joy: “Yeah, I could see it. INSANE.”
And I find myself agreeing with her on this next bit.
“The Trump admin actually asked in a poll how many casualties voters were willing to accept in a war with Iran???” Greene posted to X on Saturday . “How about ZERO you bunch of sick f*cking liars. We voted for America First and ZERO wars.”
In another post, she wrote , “This is NOT freeing the Iranian people!!! This is murdering their children!!! WTF are you insane people doing??? AMERICA DOES NOT SUPPORT THIS!!!
The felon’s still at war with the environment. (The formatting is from the original.)
The Trump administration has once again garnered headlines for reducing environmental protections after opening the only American marine national monument in the Atlantic Ocean for fishing.
What’s happening?
According to Mongabay , the Trump administration has opened the Northeast Canyon and Seamounts Marine National Monument to commercial fishing as part of his latest push to roll back environmental protections across a variety of fronts.
The 4,913 square mile chunk of ocean sits off the coast between New York and Rhode Island and is home to four undersea mountains. It has been widely recognized as a valuable area of conservation in the heavily commercialized Atlantic Ocean. This is the second time Trump has repealed protections on the monument; in 2020, he repealed Barack Obama’s 2016 designation protecting the region from fishing, a decision reversed by Joe Biden in 2021.
Another Republican officeholder has some info for Rip van Simple.
Rep. Thomas Massie issued a pointed reminder on Sunday that war won’t distract him from his push to force the Department of Justice to release all documents linked to Jeffrey Epstein.
“PSA: Bombing a country on the other side of the globe won’t make the Epstein files go away, any more than the Dow going above 50,000 will,” the Kentucky libertarian wrote on X.
Turns out the felon should’ve asked someone else to name his latest military escapade.
Nothing about Trump’s surprise war on Iran has gone down well—including the name of the illegal attack.
So-called “Operation Epic Fury” has been ruthlessly mocked online by commentators who have ripped into the administration for giving the outward appearance of being staffed by children.
“Overnight, on President Trump’s orders, the Department of War commenced OPERATION EPIC FURY — the most lethal, most complex, and most-precision aerial operation in history," Secretary of Defense Pete Heseth wrote in a statement on social media.
“‘Operation Epic Fury’? So Hegseth personally named this, huh?” one commentator wrote .
Hundreds of others across Bluesky and X followed suit, alleging that Trump’s administration continues to demonstrate the maturity of a 12-year-old.
“Of course you think ‘Operation Epic Fury’ sounds badass, you’re 12,″ one person wrote on X.
“Operation Epic Fury is the kind of name a particularly dim 12-year-old comes up with, so right on brand for Trump and Hegseth,” said another.
“It’s called Operation Epic Fury because it tested well with a panel of 6-year-olds and Steven Seagal,” wrote author Russ Jones on Bluesky.
There are a few suggested alternatives. But my favorite is this comment:
Federal judge who defied the felon tells it like it is.

“Judge Coughenour told us threats come with the turf,” Whitaker said. “He has sentenced an Al Qaeda bomber and Montana militia members, and needed round-the-clock protection. But he said he’d never had as many death threats as with the birthright citizen case .
“I’ve been at this for 44 years,” Coughenour said of his career on the bench. “I have never encountered the hostility toward the judiciary that has existed in this country in the last year. And I don’t think it’s because we’re making bad decisions. I think it’s because there are people who think that they can make a lot of political hay out of criticizing the federal judiciary.”
And the one individual who thinks that most, Your Honor, happens to be Individual One.
#1 candidate for the ignoble award thumbs away to get some compliments online.
What a guy. Because of him, people are dying and he’s crowing about someone liking him way back in 2024?

Great user name for that post. @doomtastic . And I agree. Nobody’s doing anything to stop this shit storm. And I don’t even mean the Iran stuff.
I’ve written my congress people 6 times. I get nothing but crickets.
Today, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth said, “This is not a so-called regime change war, but the regime sure did change. And the world is better off for it.”
Even a blind squirrel can find an acorn once in a while.
Monty quoting Yahoo News:
Federal Judge John Coughenour — who ruled against President Donald Trump’s attempt to end birthright citizenship — told 60 Minutes Sunday that he has never encountered vitriol and threats to his life as he has from MAGA adherents.
When MTG was dissing the left she warned she carries. When she broke with MAGA she hired a bodyguard. This says all you need to know.
I got this reminder today:
Reminder: the U.S. is on high alert for terrorist attacks and 22-year-old Thomas Fugate is in charge of the Department of Homeland Security’s counterterrorism efforts. He campaigned for Trump and has no experience.
As a reminder, Thomas Fugate:
I say cut Grafstrom a little slack. He’s not some guy on the street. He’s the head of FIFA. Figuring out how world events will affect the upcoming Word Cup is his job.

And besides, football is not a matter of life and death, it’s far more important than that
Normally, Iran would probably seek revenge for America killing the Iranian head of state by killing the American head of state.
But we’re talking about Trump. So Iran is going to get their revenge against America by not killing him.
