The Trump Administration: The Clusterfuck Continues (Part 2)

He’s like every other cabinet member who talks about food. They never talk about how the government might work to lower costs. It’s just “raise chickens in your backyard”, or “eat smaller portions”. They don’t know and don’t care how regular American life actually works.

And in the meantime, Barron is trending all over the internet:

According to the FRED, ground beef us up 22% from Jan 2025 to Jan 2026.

I guess if you can’t afford ground beef now, you can use other, cheaper ground up… stuff…

The annoying thing about comparisons is, as with what counts as a “basket” for inflation, steak is not chicken leg quarters at $0.79lb, it’s chicken breasts at $2.39lb. Pork is not picnic shoulder at $1.69lb it’s chops at $3.99lb.

Yeah, I can get back ribs at $4.99lb but the first “steak” I find is top blade at $9.29lb. The cheap steak of my childhood, chuck, is $12.50lb and real steak cuts are $15 to $35 a pound.

I haven’t been able to afford beef for decades.

Even when they actually think they’re telling the truth they’re lying.

I guess that makes Dinsdale happy.

She’s only 14, isn’t she a little too young?

Oh wait, we’re talking about a Trump here. She’s a little too old.

Well…

You really know how to hold a grudge.

Hah! I made a reference to that flick a couple of hundred posts above.

It made a permanent mark on my opinion of him.

God, I love that movie! I saw it at the Los Angeles Science Fiction and Fantasy Film Society when they couldn’t get the SF film they had scheduled. Since I like cast-iron, I still think of ‘At the store, can you buy a new frying pan? I’m a little squeamish about using the one we use to kill people.’ And then there’s the iconic Piece O’ Pizza sign.

I thought the military rejected anyone over 6′8″.

This kind of thing seems to pop up every time there’s a war. “They should force the children of the people who voted for it to fight!”

It’s stupid and barbaric. In this country we don’t punish people for the actions of their parents.

Tell that to the citizen children of undocumented immigrants.

In this country we shouldn’t punish people for the actions of their parents.

We shouldn’t force people into bankruptcy for medical debts, but here we are.

If those sending the children of the working classes to war had something to lose as well, they might not be so willing to put lives in harm’s way.

Agreed, but we’ve decided as a society that the draft is no longer useful or desireable, children aren’t proxies for their parents, and I certainly wouldn’t want to be held accountable for my father having been a total dick. (Which he absolutely was, and I don’t doubt that he would’ve been 100% MAGA if he’d lived to see Trump enter the world of politics.)

There are a fuck of a lot of things that shouldn’t be happening in this country that nevertheless are happening. Sending a shitty president’s shitty kid off to fight in a war would be among the least egregious.

That doesn’t mean we need to contribute to that state of affairs. I consider this line of thinking morally equivalent to hoping that people get raped in prison.
