The winners write the history books.
As others have said, realpolitik likely still obtains.
Still, one suspects that Hegseth may need to be careful about international travel, should he lose the armed detail currently providing him with security.
Some never-Trumpers (i.e. Republicans not fond of Donald) have been making noises about Rubio being the Hope of the Party.
With images like this and others, though, I suspect that Marco will remain too “little” in the public imagination to ever be a viable Presidential candidate.
(Granted, this is getting ahead of things fairly substantially.)

This could be just the break the Romney campaign has been waiting for!
I was just thinking about him yesterday and wondering whatever happened to him.

Just in case you had any doubts, yes, the felon thinks he’s a cowboy.
The president let off some steam from waging an unauthorized war and unleashing Truth Social tirades by playing dress-up in his gold-laden Oval Office.
Trump met with the 2025 World Champions of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) and the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association (WPRA) on Friday. During the meeting, the cowboy hat company Resistol, the official hat for the PRCA, presented the president with a pricey piece of headwear.
The exchange was captured on video and posted to X by White House communications advisor Margo Martin. In the clip, a company representative presented the president with a $10,000 Resistol 1776 hat, a limited edition accessory commemorating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
Holy Lord! Isn’t that criminal accepting a ten thousand dollar gift while in office?
Ah, nepotism, how I wish I could miss you but you won’t go away. (The formatting is from the original.)
Jared Kushner is under a ticking clock. Following his official appointment as Special Envoy for Peace by President Donald Trump , Kushner has just ten days left to publicly disclose his financial records, bringing fresh scrutiny to his multibillion-dollar investment firm.
Kushner’s forthcoming disclosure is highly anticipated due to the massive influx of foreign capital into his private equity company, Affinity Partners. Since leaving his role as a White House adviser in 2021, Kushner’s firm has grown to manage $5.4 billion.
Notably, Kushner secured a $2 billion investment from Saudi Arabia just six months after the first Trump administration ended. Reports indicate Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman personally overruled his own financial advisors who objected to the sum.
I guess I should include grifting in my lament of a farewell.
The misogynist-in-competent insults yet another female journalist.
As the war in Iran stretches into its third week, Donald Trump shifted his focus to waging an online battle against New York Times journalist Maggie Haberman, who he labeled “another sleazebag writer” in a written attack via Truth Social.
“Maggot Hagerman, just another SLEAZEBAG writer for The Failing New York Times, insists on writing false stories about me, even though she fully knows and understands that the exact opposite of anything she says is usually the truth,” Trump wrote in a Saturday post.
“In any event, I’m thinking of adding Maggot, and some of her “associates,” into my Florida based Lawsuit against The Times which, very happily, seems to be proceeding nicely. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DJT,” the president concluded.
Oh, no! The felon’s in talks with another country. Can he manage to handle a two-front war?
Raúl Guillermo Rodríguez Castro, grandson of former Cuban President Raúl Castro, appeared for the first time alongside Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel at two public events on Friday, raising questions, according to analysts, about his role in Cuba’s leadership as the island faces calls for regime change from the United States.
On Friday morning, Rodríguez Castro took part in a meeting Díaz-Canel held with leaders of the Communist Party of Cuba and the Council of Ministers. Later, he attended a press conference where Díaz-Canel addressed the island’s social and economic crises and confirmed that his government had spoken with the US about the pressure Washington has maintained on Havana since the 1960s and intensified in recent months.
Rodríguez Castro’s appearances came weeks after reports surfaced that he has allegedly been in talks with the US about the island’s future.
Have I mentioned before the felon is an unrepentant and unreformed bigot?
MS NOW star Antonia Hylton said it is “disturbing” how the Trump Administration talks about Iran’s theocratic regime, with Hylton saying there is a “bit of racism” in how President Donald Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth discuss the country.
Hylton went off on the Trump administration’s “messaging” around Operation Epic Fury on the Saturday episode of The Weekend: Primetime.
She said the way Trump and other officials talk about Iran — which has killed more than 1,000 Americans since 1979 via its terrorist proxies — is unsettling, considering the country is simply an “opponent.” And in particular, Hylton was upset with Hegseth saying Iran is run by “savages” earlier this week.
Here is what she told Ayman Mohyeldin and her other co-hosts:
The other piece of this that I found really disturbing in the messaging around the war recently — and Ayman, I really want your thoughts on this in particular — is some of the language in the description of their opponent. Sort of the way they seem to create this image of the Iranians and all of their sort of proxies or allies, the sort of imagery that they conjure up.
And I think that it takes a certain amount of arrogance and I’m also going to say it, a bit of racism, to constantly talk about people like they are savages.
That is a word that we have heard Hegseth use. [They] talk about people as though the are subhuman, too stupid to engage in a war with the United States, incapable of possibly out-maneuvering us, and then find ourselves in the exact position in which it appears they are consistently out-maneuvering us.
Someone’s going to tick off Killer Kennedy.
Surgeon General nominee Casey Means, who drew criticism last month for sidestepping a direct endorsement of the measles vaccine during her confirmation hearing, has clarified that she believes people should take the shot, according to written responses obtained by MS NOW .
Lawmakers from both parties raised concerns after Means told senators that vaccinations “save lives” and were a critical part of public health strategy, but stopped short of broadly encouraging parents to have their children vaccinated against illnesses such as measles , the flu or whooping cough.
Responding to requests for additional information from members of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee, Means said she agreed with “Dr. Oz’s message to Americans to take the measles vaccine,” according to MS NOW.
Oz, the administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), encouraged Americans in early February to get vaccinated, amid a nationwide resurgence in measles cases.
Well, yeah, but the important thing is that trump put that hat on without assistance, so it proves he can find his own head with both hands.
Look at Ronald Reagan beaming down at his boy…
To me, the stupid thing about Trump trying to pin the problems with the renovations of the Federal Reserve Building on Chairman Jerome Powell is why is the Federal Reserve chairman even in charge of this? He’s an economist, not a construction manager. Should not the GSA or some other institution be responsible?
The Fed is an independent agency and has its own authority to buy and lease space. The GSA isn’t in charge of its facilities. According to this (somewhat old) congressional testimony, GSA managed less than 42% of the federal government’s leased space, and only holds about 10% of its real estate. I’m not seeing $10,000 in that hat, Resistol or not. Maybe it’s the box it came in?
I’m reminded of a bumper sticker I saw on the back of a pickup truck years ago,
I’m not a real cowboy
I just found the hat
Is the hat not too big for his head? Or is this Marco’s shoes revenge?

The box would have had $10,000 in it, except they picked two cowboy hat boxes instead of one .

I perused their website a bit. They actually have some reasonably-priced hats, but even their stupid expensive “premium” collection seems to top out at about $3000.
It’s possible they just told him the hat was worth ten grand, and he was stupid enough to believe it.
Ergo, he can find his Ass with both hands (since that’s where is head is all up)
The president is a fucking ghoul.
If you don’t want to click on the video: he goads Mike Johnson into revealing the terminal health diagnosis of a member of Congress, Johnson sheepishly agrees, Trump growls out “He would be dead by June,” Johnson says “welp, that wasn’t public,” the audience groans, Trump then laughs and slaps Mike Johnson on the back. Trump then takes credit for saving Rep. Neil Dunn’s life by getting the doctors at Walter Reed involved in order to maintain the Republican majority in the House.
It’s all so cringe, so ghoulish, so WTF.

We have now reached the stage of “Trump not immediately getting his way” re: Iran where he whines that people are being unfair to him for not doing what he wants.

The sheer unmitigated gall to talk about “unfair” after bombing a nation with a completely outclassed air force using the most powerful air force in history.
Well bitch, welcome to reality, WAR IS NOT FAIR. This usually helps the most powerful, but on occasion it helps the less powerful.

TRUMP: I've spoken to a certain president, who I like actually, a past president, he said, 'I wish I did it.' But they didn't do it. I'm doing it.
Q: Which president?
TRUMP: I can't tell you that. It would be very bad for his career even though...
