People keep talking as if these words referred to real times attached to the real calendar, rather than random nonsense.
We all know that “two weeks” is the timeframe that comes into his so-called mind when he needs a future date. He no more tracks these dates than a dog or a horse would. Further, we have no sense of what he even means.
Hmm, I may have spoken too soon it seems. Obviously if this ceasefire holds that can only be a positive development, but I’m still not convinced anything approaching an actual agreement existed before Trump made his post earlier. It seems more like Pakistan threw a lifeline to both sides and they’re both grasping at it now. It almost looks like we’re seeing the actual negotiations playing out in front of the whole world right now.
And I’ve seen this list of terms in a couple of places now, and two thoughts occurred to me…
First, I don’t see how the Trump regime agrees to any of this if he thinks he’s going to save face in any way. This is essentially Iran dictating the end of the war on their own terms. Trump would see every bit of this as capitulating to Iran’s demands and I don’t think what passes for his brain would be able to justify this. It would make him look stupid and weak to his own thinking.
Second, this essentially would just reset the status quo back to what it was before the bombing started back at the end of February. Meaning the last five weeks have been a massive waste of time, resources, lives and money. Which would not come as a surprise to anyone reading this thread, I’m sure.
I can confess I may be missing something here, but none of what has happened over the last two hours makes any sense. It’s just chaos and noise. I guess we’ll see how this shakes out over the coming days.
Well, I can admit when I’m wrong. Apparently Iran has agreed:
Iran says it has achieved a great victory and forced the United States to accept its 10-point plan, according to a statement from Iran’s Supreme National Security Council reported by Iranian state media.
As part of the plan, the US has in principle agreed to lift all primary and secondary sanctions against Iran and to withdraw US combat forces from all bases in the region, the council said.
It has also agreed to accept Iran’s nuclear enrichment and recognize its continued control over the Strait of Hormuz, according to the council. Controlled passage through the waterway would be carried out “in coordination with Iran’s armed forces,” it added.
Maybe it’s the cynic in me, but one of the possibilities that comes to mind is that the people who already know he’s not some sort of master strategist don’t matter to him or what serves as his ‘brain’ trust.
That is, many of the MAGA types are also looking for an off-ramp and hoping to have the right-wing propaganda machine that serves as their collective brain come up with something. And that something will be that “Trump won” and the actual details won’t matter to them. Just keep repeating the part they actually care about (no more fighting), conclusion (therefore we won), and just skip over the inconvenient bits like the pointless waste of lives and time and money. Residually high oil prices or inflation or whatever? Still Biden’s fault. Do that for a news cycle or two, and it will become the truth to them. I suspect we’ll be hearing something along those lines from brainwashed co-workers and family before long.
That lets Trump saves face among the only people who actually manage to still respect him. That said, he’s lost many of them. Maybe even a few permanently. But I fear most are just looking for a reason to crawl back and come up with yet another excuse so they can forgive their longtime serial abuser until the next crisis. Which may not be long. They come faster and faster in his second term, since he learned not to hire any of the ‘adults in the room’ like his first term. Epstein still never seems to go away completely, so that may be the next thing yet again.
For the rest of us, he doesn’t have any face to save anyway. He may not realize that fact but it doesn’t appear his coterie of sycophants lets him be exposed for long to anything but friendly crowds.
To me, this result makes me wonder if Trump realizes that (by my longstanding theory) he doesn’t have to actually do anything to capture the adulation he adores—he just has to say he accomplished something great, regardless of the reality.
Like, all he has to do is to say that Iran buckled and conceded all kinds of things to the US. Does it matter to his base? Not at all! All right wing media has to do is report on what he says, the fact of which is technically true, and his base will lap it up. He gets all the cheers and accolades from them, the media, and his congressional puppets that his ego desires, and the best part for him is, he doesn’t actually have to do anything. Not even anything as strenuous as getting out of bed in the morning. One tweet, a televised speech or two, and that’s it!
I don’t have any actual idea if I’m right, but I don’t think it’d be the worst outcome…
If Trump really agreed to all that (and I don’t believe it) he’d in essence be letting Iran win and even gain ground, such as charging tolls for Harmuz passage. My guess is the US and Iran are both presenting their preferred outcome, not anything actually agreed to, while they play along with Pakistan to get a bit of breathing space before hostilities resume.
ANOTHER WAR ENDED. Are listening Norway? The BIGGEST WAR EVER. Even bigger than the WWII which I won! I will be ELECTED your president if you continue to ignore me. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Donald J. Trump, President of Vuvuzela.
So he chickens out (thankfully) and that means he shouldn’t still be removed? Screw that. The entire world read and heard his unhinged ravings. Just because he didn’t do it this time doesn’t mean he can be trusted.
On another note, how bummed do you think Mr. Kegsbreath is that he didn’t get to unleash the big guns tonight? He needs to go too.
