Except that we’re paying Iran a lot more, and also they basically get to keep working on their nukes if they’ll just say they aren’t.
Some online are speculating that when Donald & Co. ‘broke the news’ of this “deal,” which is now falling apart fast, they forgot that it would get an extra day to fall apart-----thus wrecking any stock-market manipulations they had hoped to accomplish.
Donald forget the American stock market is closed Monday for Memorial Day.
(Oh well—there’s always next weekend! Deal announced; deal falls through at JUST the right moment…)
Regarding the press, another factor is “access.” It’s not unique to the Orange Peril or Kegsbreath, but they’ve been especially prone to cutting off organizations that wander too far into the forbidden territory of accuracy. And without access, they’re harder pressed to generate the clicks which have become their lifeblood.
Doesn’t by any means excuse their lickspittle sanewashing, but it does help explain it.
They should (but won’t, of course) let the abandoned golf courses revert to nature. There’s a small, very small former golf course near where I live that’s been tied up in family litigation for I think decades now and it’s been fascinating to watch how, left alone, it’s been rewilding itself. There’s a local conservation group that would be perfect for taking it over, turning the ancient tiny club house into a visitor center, and teaching the public about reversion to (something approximating) its former natural state. I actually called them to suggest it and was told they’ve been watching the site but haven’t been able to acquire it yet.
Golf courses and lawns are unnatural abominations, ecological deserts, water wasters…
point of order: Tallgrass prairie - Wikipedia is a natural ecosystem. True, it wasn’t kept green year-round nor mowed, but large expanses of grass are definitely natural.
Well, of course grasslands are natural. Much of the middle of the USA was essentially grasslands till the sodbusters and cattle ranchers fucked it up. The Scythians and Mongols, for example, ruled vast tracts of grasslands as horse lords. Lawns, however, are not at all the same as prairies. They’re not an ecosystem, they’re a useless monoculture.
ETA: The local golf course that’s rewilding is a perfect example of that sterile monoculture reverting to an expansive ecosystem supporting a wide range of flora and fauna.
Oh: you have a much narrower definition of “lawn” than I do. In my mind, they’re mown patches of mostly grass but also other things, but certainly not a monoculture. Not important, anyway: carry on.
Dog killer Noem and the grift. Over paying and probable kickbacks.
Watchdog Probes Kristi Noem’s Warehouse Purchases for ICE Detention Centers
WSJ identified four firms that never received federal contracts before working with Homeland Security on the warehouses. Together, their contracts are worth up to $500 million. Nearly 50 other contractors were paid $1.7 billion since President Trump took office.
According to a report by CoStar, a real-estate analytics company, ICE paid between 11% and 13%, on average, above the price for comparable properties
