The Trump Administration: The Clusterfuck Continues (Part 2)

It happens in medicine. Interns in the US are still given 24 hour shifts. There are some purported benefits to this but a lot of it comes down to “well, WE had to do it, so there’s no reason THEY can’t”.

Personally, I’d rather have well rested staff tending to patients, but that’s just me. That culture is slowly changing but there’s a lot of inertia to overcome

IMO, that practice basically comes down to being a hazing ritual. It has no place in medicine.

I figure this is more about Trump’s racism than his sexism. I’m pretty sure if the WNBA champions were a group of young white women, Trump would be all in favor of bringing them to the White House. He’d probably be asking some of them if they wanted to visit him at Mar-a-Lago.

Anybody else remember that photo of the NCAA women’s tennis champions at the White House? Only one black athlete, of course. And how they were all hidden away at the back while all the men were up front?

It’s both racism and sexism. Y’all can argue how much of each but there’s no shortage of any type of bigotry in that man

I read that in the Roman Empire it was the dream of every slave to have his or her own slaves. Not, as you would expect, to be free him or herself.

The concept of a world without slavery just didn’t exist to them.

I noticed the lack of a word too late to edit, though in any case it seems the gist of my intended meaning was taken correctly due to context.

I meant to end the sentence to say “A world free of slavery and indentured servitude”

But not everyone was a slave. A slave could easily imagine being a free person rather than a slave owning other slaves.

He is an equal opportunity bigot.

Trump tells Fox News that millions of Americans died in Iraq.

“I don’t know if America has the appetite to do what I would really much prefer doing,” he said. "You remember in Iraq, I said, ‘Don’t go in,’ but they went in, they made a big mistake, it should have never – you know, that war lasted for 10 years. It killed tens of thousands of people, millions of people on both sides, millions of people – nobody ever reported that

“We’ve lost 13 soldiers in two wars. In Venezuela, we lost none, took over the country, and in Iraq – in Iran we lost 13,” he added. "In Vietnam, we lost hundreds of thousands, 19 years – nobody says that.

In the Iliad, as Hector stands on the walls of Ilium holding his infant son Asyanax he voices his fearing his son will be murdered and his wife will work the loom in another man’s home should the Acheans breach the walls. Does Hector wish for his son to have a safe, happy life? No. He wishes for his his son to grow into an even mightier warrior than Hector himself. i.e. He wishes for Asyanax to grow into adulthood, breach the walls of other cities, kill their infant sons, and make the wives of his dead enemies work the looms in his own house.

We often see the world as it is and hope we’re the ones holding the barbed whip instead of the ones being whipped. It’s much harder for us to see the world as it might be.

Yes, but then what?
Well off people, in that culture, owned slaves, so anyone who wanted a better status of living would think about getting their own slaves.

“Before I came around you had to go to Japan to get a Maine lobster”

“We took out night some nights 25 ships, some nights 15, the last four or five we did 25, 22, 21, 26, 18, & 14. Who else would remember those numbers?”

I don’t know. I’d think that being a freeman, without the onus and lack of an overlord would be a definite step up from being someone else’s slave. Plenty of free citizens didn’t own slaves themselves.

Oh surely, and most would probably not get above that.
But it would be very rare for a freeman not to dream about getting slaves for himself if he could, it was not seen as something bad, on the contrary it was what civilized people did.
I want to believe that some, after experiencing slavery themselves, refused to do the same to other people, but if they did I don’t think there’s any historical evidence.

I’d like to see someone tomorrow ask him, with no warning, to recite those same numbers again.

LOL! The random numbers quote has to rank up there with the injecting bleach quote.

It’s PERSON, WOMAN, MAN, CAMERA, TV all over again.

Meanwhile, I predict a mad rush by MAGAs for lottery tickets…

Better hope that’s not the winning number. He’ll definitely be crowned king.
