To me, living in a fairly polarized country, it amuses me somewhat to see people of clearly mixed race attempt to “pass” as white.
One guy I worked with had skin more dark than I have ever had from tanning, and had abhorrent views towards, as he referred them, “the darkies” (and worse), Afrikaans culture has always been somewhat racist, but like in slave era USA there was always going to be a little cross race rape, so that is not his fault. But he so strongly identified as ‘white’ I chose not to bring up the subject
But fuck it, in the “new” South Africa, there are multiple benefits to being a “person of color” especially employment. I mean, if I was not obviously lilly-white, I would leap onto that train.
