OK, all seem to be in agreement. Things are moving along with Berklee and I hope to have more to report soon.
It’s been suggested a Zoom call to celebrate receipt of the gift by Berklee would be appropriate. All donors would be invited. It’s been further suggested a musical remembrance in connection with said call would be a fitting tribute. I’ve reached out to the Callanwolde Band, the Atlanta community band Jenny played with for many years, to see if they’re interested in participating. This may not be an easy thing to arrange during the pandemic so I figured I’d better have a Plan B. Any thoughts from this group? We lack the technical capacity to do a coordinated online performance but perhaps there’s a simple solution. Let me know.
It’s taking longer than expected, although the delay for the past month has been on my end. I finally got the details worked out with Berklee and just hadn’t gotten around to filing the paperwork due to the press of other business. I’ve set things in motion today and expect to transfer the funds next week.
Doing a musical tribute via Zoom call turned out to be more complicated than expected so I’ve given up on that idea. I’ll see if some kind of online acknowledgment of the gift can be arranged but at this point am mainly interested in getting the funds conveyed so Berklee can buy the damn tuba.
Thanks for the update. It doesn’t bother me that it’s taking a while. In a weird way, while this is unfinished, it’s like she’s still here in a way… there’s still something on the to-do list … once it’s all done, then it’s done.
If there’s an afterlife, I wonder if she has gotten to meet John Philip Sousa there… Wow. That would be so cool.
Bummer that the Zoom tribute can’t be worked out; that would have been fun. (I’m one of those weirdos who still gets excited about virtual gatherings; I haven’t done many virtual meetings at all because my workplace doesn’t supply camera-equipped computers, and my friends and relatives all prefer phone calls and emails.)
Thanks for the update, too; I’m glad you’ve finally found a place that wants the gift.
I’m happy to report that the ~$8k to purchase a tuba in memory of the late Jenny “TubaDiva” Paradis, longtime admin of the SDMB, has been successfully conveyed to her alma mater, Berklee College of Music. I’m trying to arrange a Zoom call to mark the conveyance and display the tuba, ideally with a musical interlude, but the pandemic complicates things. I’ll let you know of further developments.
It’s such a great way to honor Jenny and I’m happy to see that it’s happening. She was such a positive force for this place and an amazing person in the interactions I had with her on and off the board.
Thanks for your continued hard work on this Ed. It’s amazing how difficult it can be sometimes trying to get people to take your money. Kinda like renewing your message board membership…
