The Venture Bros: Family That Slays Together Part 1

Part 1 of the Venture season finale, and boy do they bring it. Fantastic episode. Also, the online version has a couple of minutes of bonus footage at the beginning.

I did not recognize Brock Sampson without his hair. I thought it was another member of the Soul Patrol who we hadn’t met yet.

A lot going on this episode. I was glad to see Molotov again! She’s one of my favorite characters, and I was starting to feel neglected. Hope to see more of her next season. The grin on Gathers’ face when he slapped Brock for grabbing his breast was priceless; I think he must enjoy how uncomfortable he makes Brock.

Most importantly, we’ve finally found the reason behind Princess Tinyfeet’s absence. Poor Hatred.

I’m sort of curious why they’re trying to kill Brock. His car turned on him when he was digging around for information about Orb in the previous episode, but as far as I could tell he did his duty – he was willing to kill Rusty until it became clear that the Orb wouldn’t be activated. If they were just going to kill him anyway, why bother going through with it?

Has something transpired that I’m missing?

I’m a little vague on this myself. If I went back and looked at the previous episodes I’d probably understand better, but from what I recall, Brock attempted to quit OSI in ORB. The ‘Termination’ code he sent turned out to be a different kind of ‘Termination’ than he expected, and his car turned on him. Presumably it also sent a signal to OSI telling them that he’s gone rogue and needs to be taken out. I think it has something to do with ORB too, but I’m fuzzy on that.

Oh! Also, his orders when he was sent to guard the Ventures was that he wasn’t to let anyone search a certain square of ground, which he planted an herb garden over. But Rusty started digging, and that probably pissed OSI off.

An awesome episode! They packed a lot of stuff into this one without overcrowding it.

“You’re not gonna like searching for the keys.”

Poor, heroic Helper saves the day with no thanks whatsoever.

davidw, it’s Soulmates, not Soul Patrol, which is way worse. And way funnier. I think the Armor of righteousness stuff came from a set of childrens pyjamas that were marketed to religious-minded parents. Seriously. And I like that they do their own version of the “Go Team Venture!” high-five.

Herr Trigger (great name) was awesome too, over the top phallic obsession and all.

But he got a hug from Brock earlier in the episode! That counts for something, surely.

Be afraid.

The biggest unexpected laugh was when Brock bent over to drag away a body and his pink pants said, “Juice” or something on across the ass.

It’s cool that the Monarch is officially back to arching Rusty.

But I’m still trying to recover from Col. Gatherers scene.

Randroid, that link is the exact thing I was talking about.

Good ep.

Couple of times where I thought we might end up with new Dean & Hank clones, but they were just teasing us. (Like in the hangar when they were shown hiding around the corner making their hands like guns. Step around the corner and goodbye clone kids!)

Poor Sgt. Hatred.

I think they’re just getting off on squicking us out with the OSI guy turned stripper.

“Why do you sword guys always have to talk about your swords?” :stuck_out_tongue:

Kinda bummed that this is part 1 of the season finale. Did 13 episodes go by so quickly? Also kinda bummed that not a one of them was a real “adventure” episode. Hope we can get a couple of them in season 4.

I know, right? I didn’t even think we were halfway through when The Lepidopterists aired until I glanced at wiki and saw there were only three eps left. I’ve been really enjoying this season, but it feels like it’s been laying the groundwork and building up to something big, with no payoff until season 4 or 5.

I liked how the Monarch called Dr. Mrs. The Monarch “Dr. My Wife.”

Also, if #21 and # 24 were running around the sewer system looking for a way in, why didn’t #21 just take a pee there if he had to go so badly?

Pee in the sewer? Are you kidding me? That’s disgusting. No self-respecting henchman would do that.

This season seems like it flew by.

Awesome episode! I think my favorite gag was that Molotov’ squad is called The Blackhearts.

The Blackhearts’ logo is this weeks t-shirt. In a note on the t-shirt page, it says that the logo actually appears in next weeks episode. So in all likelyhood, more Molotov & Co. Yay!

Only one was doing guns, the other one was doing Spidey webshooters…or Doctor Strange magic fingers…

Yes, I know.

Favorite lines:

“Put on your seatbelt! Do you want to end up like Gary Busey?”

and

“HELPeR often speaks of the coming war between man and the brotherhood of machines.” I love HELPeR.

The thought that came to me on seeing Dean’s hands like that was sais, like Raphael’s weapons in TMNT.

I’m not entirely certain why.

Oh, I can definitely see that, but given his Spider-Man pajamas, I’m definitely leaning towards the Thwip explanation.

One of the best VB episodes ever, thanks in no small part to this.

Now that Brock has sacrificed his hair, what will the bartender at Nightin’ Ales call him?
