The Very First AlamoDopefest Ever

Location of Dave & Buster’s.

I’ll see y’all on Saturday.

Why thank you, Lord Jim. I was starting to wonder if my stupid SBC DSL was ever going to come back online today, so I could post directions. What a sweetie. I owe you an extra hug or two.

I’m glad to hear you’re still coming, CRorex. Yes, if you live in the Medical Center area, then come towards 410 on Fred Rd, go over the hwy, then left onto the access rd. IF it’s open. That changes daily, almost. If it’s closed, just go to Crossroads Mall, turn in anywhere, and go around to the back side.

When I get there on Sat, I’ll have a big sign saying Adams Family Gathering or some such, just look for that. I may or may not be wearing purple, just to keep you guessing. I’ll still have long blonde hair and my purple bear with me, though. :stuck_out_tongue:

So, I make that a definite for Lord Jim, Ringo, CRorex, purrplebear and Mr Bear, possibly mipiace late afternoon. And a possible for DirkGntly and Mrs, Audrey Levins, and one or two others. The Nerd informed me he would likely be neck deep in work, so will regretfully have to pass this time.

purrplebear, getting excited, off to decide which bear to bring this time…

Hotel room booked.

WOHOO! I’m really looking forward to this Alamodopefest. Any last minute joiners? All welcome, the more the merrier.

The Day Off Bump

bump

purrplebear, off to get dressed…

Mr Bear just walked by, saw what I typed, and said, I should make that undressed for the party. I might get more to show up that way.

My answer to him was of course:   :stuck_out_tongue:

The day OF. Tsk.

Houston…we have liftoff…

I’m awake!

kinda…

umm how will I figure out who you all are?

Well, apparently you did.

We convened at D&B, the gathering consisting of purrplebear, Mr. Bear, Lord Jim, my new acquaintance for this gathering, CRorex and myself. CRorex has an interesting gig - some 5,000 or so of his co-workers speak no English and live onsite. After a few drinks and a hefty meal, CRorex and Mr. Bear had to depart, both with upcoming work obligations.

So Jim, purrple and I went to the Riverwalk. I grew up here in Texas, and I’d never been. First observation - San Antonio mall rats look just like Houston mall rats. There seemed to be three main groups: 1.) the baggy ankle length shorts “gangstas” with all manner of headgears (mostly do-rags and backwards ball caps), at least two of whom I saw were forced to permanently devote one hand to holding their pants up, 2.) the C&W crowd, whom I’ve noticed before have now embraced the cowboy boots, large belt buckle and piercings look and 3.) the children in bondage gear(?). Well, they all stayed in the A/C - didn’t see many of’em down on the actual Riverwalk.

It was great to do this tour with someone who knew what to show us. Purrplebear was a great tour guide. We saw more wildlife (an egret sticks out in my mind) than I would’ve expected to see in that crowd. All in all, a good experience (although we searched in vain for an oil rig in the mosiac representing Texas’ history on the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center). And I got the scenic tour on the way back to the hotel.

Jim, purrplebear, Mr. Bear, it was great to see y’all. CRorex, very good to meet you; I hope we’ll cross paths again.

Since I had little idea from the Internet about my hotel, I didn’t realize that there’d be a huge halogen lamp pointed directly at my room window. So, I must assume the Ringo wreckage position soon.
