The Virginia Tech Chokies

Which is exactly how FSU got to where they are. Look at the late 70’s-early 80’s. Lots of road games with big names (with no home stand). We got so good at it that they have a name “turf games”. When we win, we bring back grass from the field and bury it.

Since when are people saying how great Boise State is? As far as I can tell, just this year.

Is this your first year following college football? People have been bitching about Boise State being left out of the BCS Championship game for like 4 years.

Which is not even close to the same thing as saying they’re great.

Every single thing I’ve heard about the argument, until recently is “they’d probably lose, but since they’re undefeated they should have a chance through a playoff system.”

Not as far as i know.

But, then again, in what other sport are the participants in the championship game or series decided by a vote, based on nebulous, subjective assessments of who the two best teams might be?

Ice dancing.

Hokies lost to James Madison. :smack:

Boise State supporters cannot be pleased.

Bad year for the ACC thus far. Ga Tech just lost to Kansas who lost to North Dakota State.

True enough.

And i’ve argued, in previous threads on the subject, that sports with purely subjective judging criteria like this (gymnastics, ice dancing, etc.) should be booted out of the Olympics.

I feel bad for Boise State, this was gonna be the year but now the Hokies suck. They will drop hard by the time the BCS polls come out.

That wasn’t supposed to be a defense.

Vagina Tech was bloodied by James Madison. They will not sniff the top 25 again this year.

No… But they can still win the ACC!!! It’s going to be a crazy year all around. I can feel it.

Holy balls “we” lost to JMU.

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA HA HA HAHAHAHAHAHA.

Excuse me, I have some friends to mock.

Whee!

I don’t. If the Hokies are bad and Boise state barely beat them, what does that say about Boise? Meanwhile, Alabama dominated Penn State, after a microscopic 2 game sample, those teams hardly look on par, do they?

BSU: “We’ll play James Madison any time! Bring 'em on!”

They are happy with their schedules. They like having 3-6 games a year against top-25 teams, half of them on the road. They don’t like Boise’s schedule, which in any given year includes 1-2 games against ranked teams. They don’t like the fact that Boise can give themselves an easier schedule and get equal respect.

It’s not about the BCS. It’s about the recognition of the fans/media/coaches; and no, I for one don’t think they will deserve more credit than an 11-1 SEC team. They have to jump for me if they want my esteem. More importantly, they have to jump for the people who do the polls, who know full well how a tough week-in-week-out grind is harder than a one-game showdown followed by a string of patsies.

It would be really simple for them: sign three two-for-one deals with big schools. Then add a I-AA creampuff. Along with their conference schedule that would give them six home games, so there’s no lost revenue. Their schedule would still be easier than any BCS teams’ but they could credibly say they were doing their best to play a tough slate. As it is, they are not.

I feel bad for the players, who can plausibly say they defeated every challenge before them. At the same time, they knew or should have known Boise’s place on the national stage, and the fact that Boise does not seek out a tougher schedule, and does not have an “anyone, anytime” attitude. If the sanctity of an undefeated season was important to them, they could have chosen 1-AA (or walked on at a PAC-10 school).

If you guys don’t read the blog Every Day Should be Saturday, I recommend it. Here’s their twitter preview of the Oregon State v. Boise State Game:

I don’t care who you are, if you are a college football fan, that’s comedy gold!

I watched Boise closely. They look very fast. They hit hard and tackle securely. They are better than i thought they would be.
