As I was watching I was wondering if women can get pregnant in Woodbury (which was resolved) and what that Dharma scientist is doing in that lab and if they’ll ever get off the island.
It’s pretty standard zombie movie stuff. Some idiot private gets bit or scratched while on a patrol and doesn’t tell anyone. Or a couple of guys fucking around and get surprised by zombies before the gate gets secured properly.
Well, the way it’s been presented so far, the Governer knows he’s a big fish in a small pond, and he evidently wants to keep the pond small and manageable. Hanging on to a smattering of people who he figures will be subservient to him is worth a bit of effort to convince them to stay. Armed groups like the National Guardsmen are a potential threat to his authority and so their weapons and hardware are worth a lot more to the Gov than the soldiers themselves are.
I imagine he would consider Rick (but not necessarily the rest of his group) in the same light.
I assumed the base didn’t know that anyone who dies comes back. The pilot said something like “someone got bit somehow” which made me think that was the case.
I think the mystery saboteur will be a new character.
I don’t see how a mish mash group of people with a couple of rifles is any threat to him. National guardsmen I can understand, but Rick’s group could be long gone and he just has Meryl’s recollections from months ago.
I know time is hard to figure out, but Mechonne was pretty confident and secure when she ran into Andrea with her pets and sword. She has a persona that she has latched on to to reserve her sanity and she will not lower her guard even to Andrea with whom she spent months.
It’s pretty damn obvious that zombies retain some memories. For example they still know how to walk, climb stairs, can regconize doors & windows, and some are even capable of crude tool use (like using a rock to break a window).
Yes, she actually did this several nights in a row (it was highly upseting for the boy). I don’t think it was even their house, just an abandoned one they were seeking shelter in.
Yeah, a dusk to dawn curfew is pretty much common sense. And they still have electricity, but it’s probally very strictly rationed.
True. Daryl & T-Dog might also be viewed as threats, but not the women or Glenn & Hershel. Or Carl. Though if he actually knew Lori she’d never be allowed to set foot in Woodbury.
I don’t see why so many folks dislike her. Rick is being quite the asshole towards her.
She tried to tell Shayne it was over. Every woman in the world has done this by the age of twenty, and they still do not realize we guys think it means, “I’ll do you again as soon as I get the chance”.
But I digress.
She was angry when Shayne was killed because they’d slept together when she believed Rick to be dead, but time and the limited availability of other sex partners heals all ills.
The Governor might be the type who likes to kill other people to add their head to his collection.
Not to mention that the soldiers would be more loyal to each other and their own Chain of Command. As to your last line, you got to think the Governor wants to grow his following some. So I would think he’d like to add the group - though probably sans Rick.
I call her “Tara”. Not quite as annoying, but why do these writers always have to have the “angry black girl” character in mind?
Otherwise, great ep. I do agree that the town has a Twilight Zone red flag all over it. Lots of little things, like the guy raking the Gov’s lawn. And that corn crop in the median? That might keep a couple alive for 5 days-- kind of a joke.
my take on the tea is that it is highly addictive or possibly a type of poison, the kind you die from when you stop getting the antidote.
Love how fast the story is progressing. Didn’t get how the black chick wasn’t seen chopping the zombies head off.
WHY DID THE GOVERNOR KILL ALL THOSE SOLDIERS?
Because he wanted their weapons and supplies but not them. Real soldiers would be a threat to his authority.
Edit: my one quibble with this episode is that the Governor stupidly put himself in harm’s way by approaching the soldiers as he did. What was the point if he was going to have them ambushed anyway? I know it was done to show how treacherous he is but really, who in the audience doesn’t know he’s a villain?
I think people are reading too much into the tea thing. The Gov just appreciates a good cup of tea. He probably thinks tea appreciation is a regal quality.
No, they were definitely lingering on the tea in patented Doom-O-Vision in the breakfast scene. It may wind up being a red herring, just used to crank up the tension (something this ep did eminently well), but they definitely made a Big Deal of the tea to the audience. My best guess is as noted above - some kind of drug that makes people compliant either through direct action or addiction.
I’m really confused about The Guvnah’s motivations. If he’s legitimately trying to build a functioning society, the ridiculous levels of double life and secrecy are a bit puzzling, and one does wonder why he wouldn’t take on more well trained men with guns to help (though their organization and respect for the chain of command does explain that I suppose).
After arguing with Dark2Phoenix about it extensively, I still feel like someone as twisted and sadistic as he appears to be would be unlikely to build a community with even a veneer of civilization - he seems more the type to lead a band of violent men, raping and pillaging over the countryside. I hope the show gives the character some believable depth and motivation. It would be cool if they eventually showed that this is a person Rick could become, given how they’re focusing on his (d)evolution this season.
On The Talking Dead, they explained it was just an inside joke based upon one of the writers preferences to always be drinking tea. No other significance.
Maybe the brand is loyal-tea.
UGH!!
Tea-hee
I think the over the top hate for Lori is just internet nerd rage. I think where I turned on her is when she spent an episode telling Shane to stay away from her family…and then a few episodes later is all “Why are you ignoring Carl!”
Just one of the many issues the writer’s seemed to have last year–inorganic drama for the sake of drama.
Did someone page Internet Nerd. I’m here!
For my LoriHate, it manifested when she, in spite of all freaking logic, took off be her pregnant as hell self in the Ford Taurus stolen from the farm to see why Rick wasn’t back yet.
Nothing since then has redeemed her. She is the one member of the core group that could get chomped on by a walker that would not elicit a “aww, I’m going to miss her”.
