The Walking Dead; 4.14 "

No, that was the end. I’m sure there was some symbolic reasoning for it, but for me it just told them which way to walk when they got to the tracks.

Great episode. The opening shot had to be a homage to the opening of Fallout. If not, it was kind of a rip off. But still, either way, this episode was really well done.

Oh it clearly was.

Shit was hard core.

I didn’t really like most of it. I can’t really explain why other than that Lizzie is (or was) an idiot. She survived the prison, countless other walkers and now she wants to play with them? Eh. A part of me was kinda hoping that Carol would have been like “Oh? You want to see Mika come back? OK…we’ll tie her to this tree and you can play tag with her when she comes back.”

I don’t know, it just seemed…kinda stupid and pointless.

The killing of her sister was a surprise though, but Carol following through in getting rid of her was not and it needed to be done.

To me the best part was Carol’s confession (which anyone could see coming) to Tyreese, although I am surprised she didn’t try to quantify it at all in her defense (“They were going to die and turn anyway”).

I guess I just hoped for more. The only truly gut-wrenching part was Carol’s talk with Mika about her “not having a mean bone in her body” and was comparing her to Sophie in doing so…when in fact Mika was a better zombie killer than her stupid crazy sister.

Ah well. Better than sheer filler I suppose.

Meant to add, only moment that made me raise an eyebrow is I could not believe Lizzie had never asked Carol if she had children before. All the time hey spent together it had to have come up.

I think so, too - she wasn’t going to be mentally healthy without the ZA, and that certainly didn’t help her.

I may be misremembering, but I think she did ask that early last season, when she was doing the Library Story Time/Combat Knife Tactics 101, and Carol either deflected or simply didn’t answer.

Anybody think the fire was the house Daryl and Beth burned?

I just assumed that was the case. I didn’t think that was supposed to be any big secret. These groups aren’t all that spread out.

Yeah, that’s what I was assuming, and also that the Crispy Critters were from the fire Daryl and Beth started.

Watching The Talking Dead, a thing just popped up that said “Scott Gimple [producer] beleives that walkers are attracted to fire because it’s one of the only things they can see, light and movement” (or something like that). That totally flies in the face of what we just saw…a heard of walkers walking away from a fire.

Good call. Serenity now!

I saw it coming, but I still really liked this episode. I started out not liking it (one more story line of people doing stupid things), but the twist saved it. And early on I kept thinking that Lizzy just creeped me out. Part of it is (I don’t know who old she is IRL) but she looks more like a scaled down 20-year-old than a young girl of 12.

On re-watching, I see the walker collapse and get stuck on the train tracks before the group finds the farmhouse - did he fall in a hole, or did his leg just break on him?

A bit of foreshadowing I caught on re-watching the beginning:

When Lizzie tells Carol that she saved Tyreese by shooting some of the attackers, she said that she didn’t mean to shoot them in the head.

I kind of noticed it the first time - but in hindsight it really stands out.

Yeah, we noticed that too - first go round, we thought she meant that she didn’t mean to kill people, but what she meant was that she didn’t mean to stop them from turning. Creeee-py.

I wondered that as well. On the one hand they could have had the actor fall in a hole so it looked like the zombie’s leg just sort of fell apart. OTOH, there’s no reason why the zombie couldn’t have just tripped over a rail road tie.
Maybe there was a hold there, he was stuck for the rest of the show, he wasn’t even really putting up a fight to try and move.

But why would there be a hole there?

If his leg had just broken he could’ve simply crawled away, he was definitely stuck in a hole. No idea why there would be a hole there though.

Uh, but they clearly had been in or very near a fire prior to turning up at the pecan farm.

Lizzie screaming at Carol after Carol put a knife in Griselda the Zombie’s head - “It’s the same thing! What if I killed YOU?” Oh yeah, that was one messed-up kid.
