The Walking Dead; 4.16 "A" (open spoilers)

Salt, lots and lots of salt.

Wow. No, those aren’t red necks. Those are hillbilly Deliverance rapists. Child rapists for Christ’s sake! I hate gangs!

I don’t think Terminus is cannibalism. I have no idea what the candles are about, but Terminus won’t be as bad as we think it is. I mean, how do you get that many people to go along with it?

I wonder what the significance, if any, was with the empty boxes of powdered milk outside the rail car were other than food for Glenn’s group?

Is powdered milk fattening?

By promising hope to hopeless, starving people?

Every.Single.Person from the jail saw a sign that said “Terminus, those who arrive survive” and said “Sounds good, I’m on my way”

Frankly, I didn’t buy that, in the history of The Walking Dead they’ve never all agreed on something that easily, but there must be something about those signs that make people just start following the tracks (and magically know how far away they are from the place).

They sure wasted a lot of ammo firing full-auto just to “herd” the four toward the rail car, and it’s an absurdly dangerous strategy against a group that is itself armed. What if they take cover behind any of the walls or piles of material and start shooting back?

For that matter, why return their weapons after the initial pat-down at all?

This was a nothing, heavily-padded episode.

It’s amazing to me how all of this is happening with all these different groups, hideouts, etc over such a small geographic area.

Well, if they do get out of this, I can see the group deciding to go along with Abraham’s Washington DC plan.

That was the other then I meant to mention when I said it seemed like an obstacle course. They could have started shooting back.

If they do that, Glen or Rick is going to want to know what the secret is before they go along with that plan.

LOL. Billy Ray Cyrus will tell them it’s classified.

I’d take “it’s classified” with a group of nice people over “this place is too weird.”

I don’t think Rick would have a problem demanding Billy Ray divulge the information or part ways.

Rick and Glen (and Maggie) don’t have an issue fending for themselves. Abraham would be nice for the muscle, but they’ve got Daryl.

Besides, once Billy Ray tells them it was all BS to get some protection they’ll all get mad, Rick will calm them down and they’ll find a new place to camp.

Or that’s how it would play out if they escaped. But it’ll probably all play out inside Terminus.

Daryl got beat up by a couple of hillbillies. I’m starting to doubt his usefulness.

What are the odds Billy Ray actually knows jack shit? And if he doesn’t, why is Abraham so keen on believing what must seem to others a completely bullshit story?

In the book, “Lucifer’s Hammer”, after a comet hit the Earth, things went to hell much like in the show, only without zombies. Folks ended up grouping up, and one of the armies were cannibals. Their recruiting method was to make captured people eat the long pork. The guilt and stigma of that, along with what others would think of them, and do to them if caught, kept people from running off.

I don’t know if they’d go that direction, but if they brought in folks and fed them soylent barbeque, maybe that’s their way of recruiting and keeping people. Show them around, show them safety, order, and clean, pleasant people. Get their bellies full, then after a few meals and a couple days of peaceful rest, take them to the rail car to get a new ‘cow’ for the slaughter.

“Well, you’re a cannibal now, who else is gonna want you?”

After this episode, a bullshit story sounds better than reality. I’m starting to understand Ab’s wisdom. He knows people. “It’s classified” might be worth more than this reality shit.

I think the whole story with the “claimers” wasn’t to leave us with a memorable story but to show us that Rick has changed. That’s what all of the flashbacks were for too - to show us the differences between Rick as a farmer and Rick as a fighter.
When he and Carl left the prison, we saw that entire episode of Carl pretty much calling him a pussy and saying that he couldn’t protect him. And Rick looked pretty useless there for a while. At the end of the scene with the claimers, I’m pretty sure everyone had a feeling that Rick was one badass dude that can protect his group, his family, when he is needed. Without that scene, we wouldn’t have a lot of hope about his potential for leadership or ability to take on this new threat. I have a feeling that Rick is going to do a lot of ass kicking next season, and this episode was supposed to show us that he’s “back” and entirely capable of doing what needs to be done.

So it may have seemed pretty pointless, but it did serve a purpose.

Maybe I’m weird, but I really want Darryl to get together with Beth. I mean, come on, this is the end of society as everyone knows it. They really seem to have a connection. I do believe that they lurve each other. I’m sad that we didn’t see Beth at Terminus. But klnda happy too. Maybe those that haven’t made it there yet will be the saviors who have.

Can’t believe that I have to wait until October to see this show again. That’s the problem with new tech. I really got into this series about 6 months ago and saw the whole thing within that time. Now I have to wait…just like when I was a kid and had to wait for shows to come back. Sucks, man!!!

This. Rick says “We’ll spread out and watch for a while. See what we see.” I thought that this was one of the smartest things they’ve done in a long while. Terminus looks deserted - we haven’t seen a single person until you get well inside the place. Then Michonne goes off with Carl and speaks her monologue and Daryl stays close enough to Rick to see he’s burying some long guns. So, of course, next thing they’re hopping the fence and walking right in.

Because if they’d carried them, they’d be gone now. If they can get out of the box car, they’ve got a cache of weapons. And if turned out to be more a Woodbury situation, where things weren’t immediately bad, they’d still have access to weapons if they needed to escape.

Eh. They looked around for some unspecified/unshown period of time and didn’t see anything, leading to a not unreasonable assumption that the place was pretty much empty. Now, how that army managed to actually keep concealed is a pretty good question. But I certainly assumed that they didn’t just jump right inside. If nothing else, Rick had enough time to dig a hole and bury the guns.

They gave the weapons back because they were in a non-combatant area with people who generally weren’t going to be able to defend themselves against even unarmed people just off the road. They knew they had overwhelming firepower for when they wanted to disarm them later.

In the meantime, giving the weapons back showed good faith, and would tend to make our heroes more trusting of what was happening.
