They never shot at Rick’s group. They shot in front of them to herd them toward the rail car. Someone in the group even noted that they gunners were shooting at their feet.
The terminus group doesn’t want them dead - they want them quarantined.
If they were cannibals, our crew would all be dead. Do you know why cows are killed humanely? It’s nothing to do with PETA. A calm cow is a tasty cow. If let it get stressed out, it gets’ all gamey. A successful cannibal kills their victims as soon as possible. Obviously they got the better of Maggie and Glen’s group - that means that they likely put something in their food to knock em out. If they were cannibals, they would have killed them in their sleep. Put them in a meat locker if they have it or they could always smoke the meat to turn it to jerky.
And the other thing - humans are the most dangerous prey in the world. if you let them know you want to kill them, they will do what ever they can to kill you first. They’re funny like that. The second you get the upperhand you’d better use it. Those roof top gunners could have taken out Rick’s crew - but didn’t. That means that they don’t want to kill them, or that they are very very stupid.
OTOH, wearing Glen and Maggie’s things is a bad sign. So, if they are cannibals, this whole thing is very poorly written.
Speaking of poorly written! Hey, let’s spread out and keep watch for awhile and see what’s going on in there. Fucking brilliant! That’s the best idea ever! What the hurry? Spend a day or two or three doing surveillance. Or…
Wait 3 minutes and walk in as a group?!?!?! What the ever living fuck?!?! Maybe send one guy in? Wait til he gives the all clear, and the rest come in. He doesn’t, and you take your giant stashed bag of weapons and go after him!
I cant wait for the fall and the new season! Carl walks into the boxcar a child and will walk out a 6’ tall teenager…
I’m glad someone noticed the powdered milk boxes as I couldn’t tell what it was. Great episode and I think they ended it well. Questions of course but it will keep up talking about it.
I don’t necessarily believe that they are cannibals but when asked the leader said “we take in people to make ourselves stronger.” which could be a clever way of saying we’re cannibals.
The reason I’m not sold on cannibalism is because it doesn’t seem wise. You will be directly competing with a stronger predator for a dwindling food source. That’s not sustainable long term. I could see adding human to supplement your
normal food supply but all that effort on luring people in would be better served working on a more sustainable food model.
Geeze, the claimed-gang sure was bad at rape and murder, for all their experience with it. I’d have appreciated a more plausible means of Our Gang surviving, perhaps Daryl playing it cool and surprising them with a crossbow attack. Instead, it was writer’s crutch #44: when the hero’s in a tough spot, just have the villains turn into idiots.
There are mountains of uneaten canned and dry food in the world, but hey screw that lets turn to cannibalism! Hell every Hobby Lobby or Michaels has mountains of candles, remember 99 percent of people were dead in two weeks when the zombie apoc happened.
I enjoyed this episode, but the fight scene with Joe’s gang was so dark (on my TV screen, anyway) that I could not make out the action too well. I did see Rick tearing the guy’s throat out, though – awesome scene!
When was that stated? I don’t recall them discussing that. Was it when they were talking to the CDC doctor? I don’t know who else would know such a thing.
I thought the powdered milk containers were an indication that Judith was inside the rail car with Tyrese and Carol. Guess not.
Loved the episode - loved the transformation of Rick back into his “leadership at all costs” role. I’m sold on the cannibalism theory. Those bones looked human to me.
I was sort of irritated by all the flashbacks and fast-forwarded through them. Thought the episode was below average, but the ending was in line with what I expected.
Humans have had meat preservation techniques for 100’s of years. Salt, dehydration…
They’ve got power - maybe they’ve got a meat locker.
But, keep them alive is the stupidest thing you can do if you are planning on eating them.
So, my theories are
A) Terminus is a screening area to see if the gang is worthy of sanctuary
B) Terminus is full of cannibals and the writers think we are really really dumb.
In an earlier episode Daryl asks Joe about Terminus after seeing a sign, and Joe was familiar with the place but I cannot remember what Joe tells him.
It was the same episode where Joe tells Daryl that they are after someone (Rick) who killed their buddy.
Damn I wish I could remember what he said to Daryl about Terminus. At any rate, if Joe was familiar with the place then I am doubting they are cannibals, but rather they kicked Joe out for being such a piece of shit.
I remember that Joe said something about how they (Terminus) didnt like people like them. I dont remember if he said they tried to be part of their little commune or what happened for them to come to that conclusion.
Does anyone remember another room where the people were calling our for help as Rick and Co. were being herded/driven to the holding area? I wonder how long people are held up in there? I also think it might have something to do with a quarantine first before deciding how the newcomers are used.
Further, writing them as planning on raping and killing everybody neatly obscured their very valid beef with Rick for murdering one of their men without provocation.
The idea seems to be that Rick exists in binary state - either farmer or warrior - even though throughout history countless thousands have been both, as the situation demanded. There’s nothing new or mind-warping about it. As a result, the flashbacks rang pretty false.
