The Walking Dead; 5.08 "Coda" (open spoilers)

Was the map with the note that Morgan found marked to show Glenn and Maggie’s group’s route to Washington? If so, that won’t be much help to him since the Washington trip was abandoned and everybody is in metro Atlanta.

I usually defend this show, but the whole Gabriel bust out of the church, run around the church, re-escape from the church felt like a Benny Hill sketch. I kept hearing the Benny Hill music in my head as he (and later they) were running around. It was a real weak plot point, and seems to have served 0 purpose except for making a character people don’t like even less likeable.

That’s exactly my biggest issue with this ep. There’s no upside to stabbing dawn with that scissors. Leave Noah there and regroup to replan.

I guess Beth had decided that the world was going to stay a post apocalyptic hell and she didn’t want to be a part of it anymore. But, I just didn’t like how that went down.

Which might be true, but their paths are close now and may cross—especially if the route to DC crosses through downtown Atlanta.

And, after perusing some fan-made maps of the goings on in TWD television-world, it does appear the church is several miles south of Atlanta, so the route would overlap there.

Zombo’s paradox.

hand, people do dumb, impulsive shit all the time, so it was plausible. The lack of a confused firefight immediately afterwards silly, though. Ten armed, scared people stuffed in a small space, two shootings (and a stabbing), everybody draws their guns all at once, and then…just stands there.

I think you can see a picture of the bald cop and presumably his kid on the dashboard, right before Rick hits him. Nice.

I know it’s standard action-fiction writing, but I’m so sick of seeing:

  1. People temporarily knocked unconscious, without further ill effects, from relativity minor blows. Like when bald cop rammed Sasha into the window.

  2. People with guns getting disarmed by the unarmed person they were pointing their gun at. Like the fight between Dawn and creepy looking cop. Bonus cliche points for having the third combatant just stand around until needed for plot stuff, like shoving a guy down an elevator shaft.

Morgan’s talismans:

The bullet looked like a .44, so mumble mumble Rick?
The Goo Goo Cluster. A stand-in for the holy wafer? His kid’s favorite candy? If the wrapper is intact, it would be “pure” ie. untouched by the new fallen world.
The rabbit’s foot. I got nothing.

Because she’s a whining, screaming little brat that does nothing but consume resources, gives away their position with her crying and attracts walkers (due to the crying)

…that and she utterly terrifies Cooper, my dog, he’s okay with the onscreen gunplay, the moans of the walkers, and the screams of the Purina Walker Chow, but a baby screaming and caterwauling? THAT’S terrifying…

His real name is Zeno.

ETA: Reading further, I see I was ninja’d by Bryan Ekers. Stealthy of him changing ‘Zeno’ to ‘Zombo’ so my ‘find’ wouldn’t work! :smack:

.

I’m sure other posters with better memory than me can tell me if I’m wrong or not but I seem to recall Morgan having the rabbits foot in season 1. Maybe he gave it to his son when he was frightened? It’s a very fuzzy recollection so I may be completely off base.

Completely agree. I can see Carl wanting to let the priest back in but I was so sure Michonne was going to put a stop to it, or at least stop to consider the consequences. There’s no point to this priest as far as I can tell, whatever “mystery” he had originally just doesn’t exist, he’s a sniveling dead weight. I was hoping for some real conflict if Michonne had let him die when Carl was trying to help him.

A priest with a bloody machete is a cool visual. Gabriel’s got potential now. He had to go back to the school to see for himself if the other bad guys really were as bad as he was told. He saw it with his own eyes and he’s coming around.

I just re-watched the first two episodes and don’t remember any rabbits foot. If there was one it didn’t stick out to me.

I did notice however that the walkers were far more agile in the first few shows at least. There were some trying to open doors with the handles and climbing fences, it was so different then what I’ve been used to for the last few seasons.

The priest is one dumb mother fucker, which is exactly what I said to the TV when he was picking up the bible with his back to the school. I was so hoping he was gonna get offed, should have left him outside for walker chow.

I also cringed at the end when Rick and the rest of the group turned around to walk away, um, hello, you know they kill people and you’re in their house, don’t turn your back on them!

Meh, he’s still useless, would have been better to lose him and keep Beth

If the show truly had guts, they’d find a way to lose him and LPITA, both are resource consuming dead weight

That’s an excellent observation. Yeah, the whole arc of him escaping and then wanting back in was just idiocy all around. I would have preferred that he had gotten ripped apart and eaten by Walkers. People like him do not survive the Zombie Apocalypse.

I believe Gareth would have exactly that attitude toward Judith.

My previous post was truncated. The first part should read:

That may have been the most gratuitous, tacked on just to have a midseason shocker death they’ve had on this series. On the other hand, people do dumb, impulsive shit all the time, so it was plausible. The lack of a confused firefight immediately afterwards silly, though. Ten armed, scared people stuffed in a small space, two shootings (and a stabbing), everybody draws their guns all at once, and then…just stands there.

I could buy that in the limited sense that Beth’s action was SO ridiculously unnecessary that nobody was mentally prepared for it. It makes no sense whatsoever. I’m actually a bit offended by its randomness.

NM. Pushed button too soon.

Give Lil Asskicker a break. Kids are in general a PITA, but are absolutely necessary for propagation of the species. In a real ZA, the survivors would be turning them out left and right.

Someone is sticking birth control in the water supply.
