The Walking Dead; 5.15 "Try" (open spoilers)

Deeanna Janeway knows about the wolves

Just saw this FOX promo pic on facebook - is it just me or does the zombie woman look familiar, and Daryl almost has a startled expression of recognition?

YOU saw two teens intimately together in a small space.

HE saw cameras lights and probably at least 6 adults staring intently at him while he’s trying to hit the timing of his lines and facial gestures correct. Throw in the possibility that one or both of his parents were on set and watching the studio monitors in real time and I bet little Carrrrl never made a stand.

Or he had a cup under all those clothes to reign in The General.

(post shortened)

It wasn’t as clear this episode but last week when the Dr. stops by Rick’s house to offer up a beer they are side by side and the Dr looked huge compared to Rick.

Yeah, he was definitely looking nuts and undermining any good point that he was making verbally. It was entertaining to watch, though…

The surgeon fellow may be a lot bigger, but hey, Rick is willing to bite a guy’s throat out if he has to.
Ya gotta take that into account.

I’m pretty sure the doc threw off his wife and Rick threw off Carl.

Rick is really screwing things up for his group. Alexandria is weak but seems willing to change; just not forced to change. An abusive husband needs to be dealt with but is not an immediate risk to the group as a whole. The only reason Rick is acting so quick to discipline the Dr is because he wants to bang his wife. So instead of working with Deanna to find a solution he creates a confrontation at a time when Deanna is doubting the value of their group and when Tara is being treated by the Dr. Way to think with your dick, Rick.

Yeah, it was more of a brawl over possession of a woman. Not Rick’s best day.

That actually brings up a good point - Rick knows damned well what a fight to the death is all about, and will definitely go there. The doctor was just screwing around. The doctor would have had to knock Rick out cold or kill him before Rick would stop coming at him. The doctor is damned lucky to still be alive.

Isn’t Morgan about 500 miles south of them at this point?

Interesting that while Rick and the Doc are acting like adolescent boys having an “I seen her first!” punch-up, two women are shown being adults. Michonne delivers the somewhat tardy, but necessary whack on Rick’s head and Sasha is up in the tower keeping the real world at bay.

Although, by trying to head off exile of the entire group and/or keeping the horde of undead from overrunning the town, they are indirectly perpetuating a system that allows grown folks to carry on like they are in fucking high school instead of contributing to the long term survival of the group.

In a somewhat related vein, the typically overwrought, kind of dumb dialogue style preferred by the writers works well in the Carl/Enid scenes because teenagers do sound like that when they are trying to do whatever the hell they are doing.

Yeah, that part of it was not Rick’s best moment. He needed to dig back into his ancient past and remember how to be a cop handling a domestic dispute.

Why do people keep asking that? He found a map to Washington, DC that Abraham left for Rick, with Rick’s name on it. What was the point of that scene if he is not going to catch up with them?

At some point, either in the next episode or at the beginning of the next season, we will see him again. It seems like it pretty much has to be the next episode or Morgan’s appearance earlier this season was sort of pointless.

Maybe Daryl, Aaron & Morgan will save Alexandria from the wolves.

There is a 4th way. Drunk Doc = porch dick. Sober Doc = surgeon. Now that all of Alexandria knows he’s an abusive drunk, No More Alcohol for Pete.

I don’t understand how they have such an extensive supply of alcohol in the first place, particularly when they complain about shortages of things like chocolate and other ingredients for cooking.

To annoy you, obviously.

If Alexandria has the resources to grow roses and strawberries, in addition to whatever other foodstuff they grow (potatoes, rice, wheat, beans, etc), they can brew beer and distill alcohol.

Chocolate requires cocoa beans. Cacao trees need a tropical environment or greenhouse. And a starter Cacao cutting or seeds.

Growing tobacco, pot and distilling booze would probably be a few of the first things people did, once all the screaming and running away calmed down after the ZA.

A greenhouse would be a no-brainer, though you’d have to grow a lot of cocoa beans. You’d also need to produce sugar, although there are probably warehouses full of that.
