The Walking Dead; 5.15 "Try" (open spoilers)

(post shortened)

The world of the Walking Dead is sliding back towards the middle ages. Emotions are high, and everyone will have to make constant adjustments. Makes for good television.

Jessie gave Rick the go-ahead to deal with Dr. Pete. Jessie said, “Yes”. That was very “adult” of her.

A drunk guy started a fight. A drunk guy that shouldn’t have access to alcohol. Not exactly breaking news.

Rick is the constable. He was doing his job. The personal feelings of the characters aside, Rick ordered Pete to leave. Pete attacked Rick. Rick detained Pete. Blood was spilled.

Michonne did her job as constable. She broke up the fight (and maybe Rick’s skull).

Sasha was last seen pointing her rifle towards the inside of Alexandria. And no one knows how close Sasha is to a complete breakdown.

When you cut your foot off with your lawnmower, his price up front is a bottle of Scotch.

What a coincidence, so is mine.

As is that of any intelligent person, in those trying times.

So have people completely given up on the idea of radio communication? All those ham radio operators we make fun of…

I’m sure you can grow sugar beets in Georgia, but yes, as you say, there would still be warehouses full of pallets of dry sugar that should last them decades.

Have we seen them doing anything with radios (except a bit a few episodes ago) since the very first days, when Rick was communicating with someone over the radio? They really have dropped that idea altogether.

Besides sending the gay guy out to recruit (heh) they could broadcast messages out and anyone able to respond, might still be civilized enough to invite into their community.

Or did Terminus broadcast? Maybe not so good an idea.

Again, that’s making a smart plan for the future, and if our gang starts doing that, I’ll fall off my couch in surprise.

That’s the downside - the Alexandrians are going to learn that you don’t want to take all comers, because some will march in and kill all your men and rape all your women.

Sam the kid helped himself to a gun when he went to get the chocolate.

Notice how Sam clung to Scarol while Rick and Pete were rolling around the town square. He sees Scarol as a mother figure who may be strong enough to protect him from Pete–prob’ly an accurate observation.

Scarol showed that taking a gun for protection is acceptable behavior.

Motive and opportunity aligned with modeled behavior.
How can he not take a gun?

Sam kills Pete.

Bingo.

They’re in DC.

Not a bad episode. In the realm of Walking Dead Stupid (WDS), we have Darryl and that other guy wandering around the countryside looking for recruits and carrying weaponry consisting apparently of a crossbow and a six-shot revolver. Good choices!

Is that how Aaron approached Rick’s group? Perhaps he wished to appear non threatening. Do they have a car with better weapons?

Eh, close enough.

I don’t think beets are all that choosy. How do you get the sugar out of them, though? Is that energy intensive?

The commute is a bitch.

I believe the usual process is for young ladies to tell the old beets that they don’t look the least bit old and they’d be proud to go to Cancun with 'em. That should be good for a sparkly bracelet or some new shoes.

Getting sugar out of beets. You probably would be better off just getting some beehives and using honey for your sweetening needs.
