The Walking Dead; 5.15 "Try" (open spoilers)

I dunno, the buzzing could attract walkers who, I assume, will not be deterred by bee stings.

Of course, one could also raid a warehouse and probably retrieve jarred honey by the crate. Come to think of it, shouldn’t Alexandria have a warehouse or at least more than one house dedicated to storage? I’d be sending out the van a dozen times a day and grabbing anything potentially usful. In short order, they should have so many supplies that storage and rat proofing become significant issues.

They don’t seem to be into stockpiling. They just go out shopping as needed.

I was staring in disbelief at that revolver too. Not only will you have to reload in the middle of the zombie onslaught, you also have to let them get real close with it being a snub-nosed revolver. Only thing worse would be a flint lock pistol.

I think their mission is stealth, and Aaron has made it this far wandering around being stealthy.

It’s the pistolero, not the size of the pistol. Aaron’s snubbie saved Glenn’s hide from the zombie herd after the car was separated from the motorhome, on the way to Alexandria (in S5-E11?).

Aaron would have the pick of the litter as far as Alexandrian firearms are concerned, and he seems happy, fast, and accurate with his snub-nose.

Feel free to pick the revolver. I’ll go with the full-frame, 17-round magazine, semi-auto.

You keep the handguns. I’ll take a phased plasma rifle in the 40 watt range.

A small frame snub-nose would not be my first choice, but we’re talking about Aaron’s choice. If he’s accurate, fast, and comfortable with his choice, I wouldn’t force him to change. He knows what he’s up against. Or at least he used to. He might chose to upgrade when he realizes he may be facing a horde of armed Berserkers.

Revolvers do not jam.

Not stock piling as mentioned above, is another bad plan on their part.

Revolvers would be my first choice. Large-framed revolvers that fit my hand. Especially in a post-apocalyptic world where I never knew what brands, or loads, would be available. Plus, everything would be covered in mud, and blood, and beer.

Neither do Glocks.

Oh yeah, honey is a magical food that stays good for millennia (seriously). They just need to find a warehouse or Walmart or something and they’ll be good for a long, long time.

I knew someone would say that as I typed my reply.

I have never had a revolver jam. I have had semi autos jam. I do not have enough money to own a Glock.

In the ZA, I would carry a .22 carbine semi auto. I would have a .22 revolver as backup. One may be sure of being able to find .22 ammo. I have fired a .45 auto that never jammed, but I have not carried it through blood, guts, mud and gore, nor beaten humans or zombies over the hear with it.

Would spools of concertina wire be hard to find? By now, they could easily have a circle around Alexandria, keeping walkers away from the wall. Leave enough space, fifty feet or so, so you can readily drive a vehicle along the outer wall (in case it needs repair) while inside the concertina circle.

I mean, deep philosophical discussions about “how the world is now” seem like a waste of time when basic fortification and stockpiling remains to be done.

there was a zombie story in which they used storage pods and train cars as fencing material. storage and a fence, nice and logical.

Sounds like it would create quite a mess of walkers wrapped in wire.

Yeah,
Shipping containers–those things are large and sturdy.
Not something that the bones and flesh of twd zombies could destroy.

Ha! I never read the story, but I thought of using shipping containers to wall off a compound. (I have a long commute when I commute.) The airport has a fence around it, so it’s kind of secure already. There’s lots of open space to put up solar panels. It’s breezy enough for some small wind turbine generators. There’s a supply of 100LL and Jet-A.

The hard part would be finding, placing, and joining four miles of shipping containers.

(Bonus: Bring full shipping containers, and you get stuff you can use.)

Shipping containers are not a good idea. They are merely a very strong frame reinforced at the corners with weak metal sides, which would bend if you walk on top. Walkers would break through one with ease.
This is what happened when someone buried a conex box. Not what you want between yourself and hordes of zombies.

Concertina becomes less effective as more, and more walkers collapse the wire.

Where’s Morgan? (Has he been busy carving "M"s into the forehead of walkers? hmmmm. ) The last time he and Rick had met, he had developed a fairly efficient walker trap. Pointy sticks mounted to heavy wooden wire reels, with a live animal caged in the middle as bait. The trap becomes more effective as more, and more, walkers block the path of those in the following ranks.

turn the floor side out
The floors definitely can hold a great deal

I don’t think that the zombies would produce many psi.
much pressure, but widely distributed

I doubt that the zombies flesh would be very suitable for rending 14 gauge steel
