The Walking Dead; 6.03 "Thank You" (open spoilers)

Okay, watched it back and I don’t know how they are going to play this fact out, but its for sure a fact: it is NOT Glen’s body being torn apart.

The first is the height of the “material” being torn up, which is much too high to be Glen; it is clearly at least 6-8 inches higher than his body.

But more than that, it is very clearly and deliberately shown to be intestines. The angle at which we are looking , there’s no way it’s Glen’s intestines, unless his intestines are being ripped out from his chest. It’s Nicholas on top of glen, probably at a right angle to Glen, with his midsection lying on Glen’s chest, and that’s what they are tearing apart.

And further, the expressions on Glen’s face are not “I am being torn apart and all the agony that goes with that” they are more like “AW SHIT, Man, this SUCKS SO HARD” which is more appropriate to watching Nicholas’ body being torn apart on top of yours, knowing you are probably next, and the whole overwhelm that goes with it. But agony? no.

He cut it when his knife broke.

I read they originally were going to tear Steven Yeun’s body apart, but he refused saying that he might need it for future roles.

That said, I am hoping it’s the other guys body and it manages to hide Glenn using the “covered in zombie guts” trick.
By the way, how come they never used the “lets cover ourselves in zombie guts” trick since Season 1?

Carol used it when she invaded Terminus to rescue everybody.

I think I’d rather have Glenn survive, even though the writing shenanigans will piss me off a bit. In particular it will be annoying because it will mean that Glenn escapes from a horde of several hundred while we have had not one but two instances of lone ninja zombies taking out a survivor in the woods in the last three eps alone. One was stuck in a tree for pete’s sake, and the other was a bizarre instance of just turning around to find the one guy suddenly down on the ground under a zombie.

We also had two tropes in this episode that should from this point forward get a writer immediately fired. One is the twisted ankle, which seems like an affliction women are especially prone to experience. What happened to women of the Atlantic coast region that they can’t run without twisting an ankle? This twist was so bad that she couldn’t even out-shamble zombies to literally save her life.

The other is the motor vehicle that runs like a gem right until peril is near, when it suddenly develops starter problems. My wife suggested this time that it was the bullets fired into the dashboard that cause the problems. I’m dubious of this fanwank, but fine. If so, then please go the extra mile to suggest something other than the engine not turning over.

Yeah, I’m thinking that, as well. Can’t wait for next week to see the “resolution” of Glenn’s fate. He is one of my very favorite characters on the show.

I voted “meh,” but probably should have voted for “did not like it.” And not because of what happened to Glenn, but rather because every character seems to always, always do the absolute stupidest thing.
Not wearing zombie guts suits while herding thousands of zombies.
Rick running off by himself in what appeared to be the path of least resistance.
Just leave the 2 injured people in the pet shop for a few hours. Tell them to sit down, shut up and we’ll be back later with a car.
Speaking of, does nobody know how to hotwire a car by now? Were they looking for keys?
It looked like there was a fence off to the side a couple feet from the dumpster Glenn was standing on. Why did he fall off with whats-his-face? Why not try to jump over that side fence?

Some thoughts:

Glenn calling Rick “Dumbass” on the radio was a cute call back to the pilot and their first meeting.

There is quite a bit of chatter online that Glenn might be alive. As much as I like the character, if they do that, it is complete BS and will erase any future tension on this show.

This episode was tense but not as good as last weeks.

Did I miss how Rick’s hand got hurt?

My theory about the Wolves (probably would be more applicable to last week’s thread but anyway…): I think the reason the raiders didn’t have Guns is the the their leader ma e them raid the camp without them as an initiation ritual. The gang itself must have guns. There were a few lines that suggested the Wolves were being forced to do what they were doing.

I don’t totally disagree, but the writers accounted for a couple of your points:

Not viable. There were two zombies locked in a closet in the pet shop that began making noise, attracting the others outside. It was likely the doors would fail and the zombies spill in eventually.

There were zombies on the other side of the fence; that’s how they ended up stranded on top of the dumpster to begin with.

One part I did enjoy was Nicholas mentioning the feed store nearby and how flammable it was, only to find that sure enough, it had already burned down.

I am fine with Glen being gone, but am having trouble finding a cute couple nick name for Rick and Maggie.

I think they were looking for a car with a good battery. It does seem they could find a standard transmission and push start it.

Didn’t even notice that! Interesting!

Maybe what happens is that Glen gets so covered in Sebastian’s* guts that he becomes invisible to the Walkers, and he crawl under the dumpster until the her disperses. As for the RV not starting, that seemed like a battery problem which would not have been caused by Rick firing a gazillion bullets into the side.

Next week’s ep is 90 minutes, but I don’t expect any resolution of the Glen issue. If there is one, it’ll be a few episodes later-- maybe the mid-season “finale”.

*Was that his name?

Nicholas.

If Glenn somehow improbably survives the horde, it’ll send a clear message to the fans that they intend for Glenn to be the Kenny McCormick of TWD…

“Oh my god, they killed Glenn(y)!”
“You Bastards!!”

Raggie?
OK, so…I don’t think Glenn’s dead. Otherwise it would’ve been more clear, and he would’ve most likely made an appearance on Talking Dead - when all other main characters have died before, they usually end up on Talking Dead to say their goodbyes. When I watched it, I yelled at the TV, and of course I thought he was dead, but rewatching it, combined with all the other clues, makes me think the herd was chewing up Nicholas.

Also - when Glenn landed on the pavement, he smacked his head pretty hard, so I’m thinking we saw Glenn in a concussed, dazed state and maybe to him it seemed like the walkers were attacking him and chewing him up.

And I’ll be the first to say it - we won’t learn of Glenn’s true fate next week. From the previews it looks like next week is all about Morgan…

The wank explanation was not those shots, but the handgun shot(s) the guy initially took at Rick that apparently struck the dashboard.

Not that I buy those causing the problem, but at least they were in the remote vicinity of causing the problem.

I agree that if Glenn survives the show will lose major credibility. Even if Nicholas’ body is on top of Glenn, you can’t tell me his feet or something aren’t exposed. There is just no believable way to get him out of there.

<speculation mode on>
Glenn somehow survived the horde, but his clothes are shredded to rags, he needs to find some clean clothes so he’s not mistaken for a walker…

He finds a close by sporting goods store, as he enters, a group of walkers reanimate close by, he has only moments to grab the closet bit of clothing to hand…

An orange ski parka with integrated hood…

If Glenn lives, we riot!
