Yeah, even in the apocalypse I don’t see it happening (although it was fun seeing them pop out of bed naked with sword & gun). Doesn’t help that as someone else pointed out, there was zero buildup for this relationship to just suddenly spring out of nowhere. I thought the whole opening “family” scene was just surreal, and that it would turn out to be a dream. I mean c’mon, Michonne in a bathrobe asking Korrl for toothpaste?
Also, in said bizarro-world opening sequence how is there a framed photo of Korrl (with eyepatch) and his sister? Didn’t know they had a darkroom somewhere.
The Jesus stuff was also pretty bad - Rick and Daryl should not have hesitated to murder the guy after what he did, and they would be perfectly justified in doing so (and perfectly in-character for them even with their relative “good guy” cred, in the context of this universe and what we’ve seen they’re willing to do to survive already). They acted way softer on him than their characters are established as being. I mean, just last episode Daryl blew a bunch of guys away with an RPG because they were a threat. A few episodes before that they were both taking out W clan invaders by the dozens. But they give this fuckhead a pass after he fucks them over repeatedly? Yeah, they had the thin excuse of him “saving” Daryl, but Daryl wouldn’t have needed any saving if he hadn’t been fucking around with them so much in the first place.
It was mentioned last season, when the Alexandria scout first approached Rick’s group, with badly home- developed black and white photos of the town to show them. Everyone thought that was suspicious at the time as there were no people in the pics, just the walls and buildings.
When the group was recruited for Alexandria they were shown crude photos to prove it was real and safe. It was those photos that lured the wolves there. So yes, they have a dark room and can make rough black and white pics.
That’s an Alexandria “thing”. It’s how Aaron talked Rick and Co. into coming there. He showed them B&W pix of the ASZ. It’s also how the Wolves showed up there… the pix got left behind at one point and the ASZ looked ripe for the taking.
While we’re all saying the same thing, home photo labs are very simple to set up, I’ve known people who did their own developing on a small budget. Developing photos is no big deal.
The photos looked poor quality and black and white. I suspect a home developing lab. I spent a lot of grad school developing black and white photos by hand- it’s really not that big a deal, especially if you’re not looking for pristine quality.
All the stores in the area that would have things needed for survival would be completely picked over. Staples and Best Buy would be mostly left alone. Printer ink wouldn’t be hard to come by, and if the stores run out of Canon ink, grab an HP off the shelf and start using those supplies. I doubt anyone was looting high end DSLRs during the fall of civilization either.
A home dark room for negatives and prints isn’t hard or terribly expensive to set up, especially for black and white. An upscale community like Alexandria would probably contain at least a hobbyist or two with such a setup.
But how long has it been since the ZA? I’ve lost track of time. Photo emulsions age out and decline in quality, especially if not kept in controlled temperature and humidity.
This episode was terrible. Characters acting even more stupid than usual for no reason.
Last week we saw a group of well armed motorcycle riders who attempted to rob Daryl and company, who made references to a larger group. And since then, they don’t talk about a probably nearby gang/encampment of villains?
Leaving a working vehicle? 1 is none and 2 is one. Have a backup!
They should have killed that guy every chance they had
Why would Rick introduce themselves?
How does Rick get pickpocketed so easily
Firecrackers sound like gunfire? And the longest delayed fuse of firecrackers ever
They could run after a vehicle and it’s still daytime, but last week they got 3 houses down and it was pitch dark.
Randomly driving around a field trying to catch a guy on foot?
Not stepping on the breaks and deciding to jump out?
Leaving the guy that’s already easily escaped being tied up, tied up again, in a room that is essentially drywall?
And really, what the fuck is the point of leaving moving walkers right outside the gate? Is the 1 second of effort really not worth it, essentially gambling your life that the walker will remain stuck on the pointy stick forever?
Maybe, maybe not. If they just kill everyone they encounter, they’re no better than the Wolves.
He wanted Jesus to join the community. After introductions, he started on the Three Questions.
His pocket was picked when Jesus ran into him. It’s a common technique to run into someone to distract them. Also, Rick is a small-town Sheriff; not a cop in a megalopolis. He probably doesn’t have much experience with pickpockets.
Firecrackers can sound like gunfire, but probably not the ones depicted. As for the fuse, what delay? Rick and Darrell watch Jesus go around the corner of the building. Jesus goes around back and lights the fuse, then runs back the other way as the firecrackers go off and steals the truck.
I don’t know if they were locking him up. They may have put him there just so he could come to. I didn’t see what was on the note, but it might have been something like ‘Here’s a glass of water. You an walk out the door when you are recovered. Don’t do anything stupid, or you will be dealt with harshly.’
If a loaded box truck is anywhere near as heavy as your standard ambulance, you shouldn’t drive it off-road anyway. One of the first things they instill in EMTs (at least, when I went through my training), is to NEVER take it off-road. Due to the weight, you can run a very significant risk of the vehicle getting stuck in even damp conditions. I’ve had to have an ambulance pulled out of a slightly muddy yard (in fact, a tow truck couldn’t pull it out…we had to get the fire department to use their vehicle to free us).
The conditions seemed pretty dry in the show, from what I remember. But there was still a lake to lose the truck in, so it couldn’t have been a drought. I get that Rick was more reacting than thinking, but still, that’s risky.
Possibly - the first time I watched it I thought it was a (much too long) delayed fuse as well, as there’s about 2:18 of screen time between him bumping into Rick and the firecrackers going off. I just went back to re-watch that scene, and there’s about 25 seconds between him running around the building out of their sight, at which point they discuss what’s up with this guy, and the firecrackers going off behind the other building in the opposite direction (behind them). Another ~22 seconds later they show him pulling out in the truck. He’d really have to be hustling, but it was at least edited to make that interpretation plausible.
The guy stole food and their only means of transportation - that’s a capital offense in the zombie apocalypse. They let him go the first time, and he stole their shit. He did dump the backpack but still, stealing their vehicle is bad.
Rick has been much more suspicious in the past - which is probably one of his better character traits. This trust random people thing is a 180 turn and bad for survival. Though it is consistent with the ham fisted way they are trying to show him changing.
I guess - but they have consistently shown Rick to be pretty quick and astute in law enforcement matters. He read those guys in the bar that he outdrew pretty well, he noticed a bunch of grooming and other characteristics of the new guy. I just found it really hard to believe he’d get pickpocketed so easily but that can get a pass…kinda.
I didn’t remember the scene correctly. I forgot he turned around the corner there so the fuse delay criticism is no good. My first reaction at that scene was, why are you heading towards the distraction? It’s called a distraction for a reason!
I was able to read some of the note. After the first sentence, it said something like, “we brought you back with us unharmed…We’ll talk later, - Rick”
But that was the same holding room they used for the Wolf guy before - essentially a drywall room. At least zen master had a cage in his cabin in the woods so I could believe it would hold a person.
